Well, it doesn't help that the two times I've had issues, the songs were poorly compressed MP3's. :o That and they have many instruments playing at the same time at loud levels... But I didn't really think about the dips either. That's a good point. I'm not saying my Onkyo is perfect or anything but I was just thinking that it can't only be my receiver causing the tweeters to trip.

Dont use poor quality mp3 recordings, they will harm anything you play loud through. I only use 320 bitrate and nothing less on my systems, and even at that I usually only use original recordings when cranking it up a bit.
Most of them only hear how loud it sounds, and the rest of us hear everything else -

That is a terrible combination of problems I've got there. Craving for loud music, heavy-metal songs, certain songs recorded poorly, low-bitrate MP3's, possibly underpowering the speakers, 4ohms and lower, old Polyswitches...;):D By the way, I usually don't listen to low quality MP3's (they are truly garbage) but some songs I can't help. I guess I should look for a better quality version of them next time. ;)

Here's a link to the replacements you need if you are 100% positive that you own SDA 2's. If they are a different model, such as the SDA SRS 2, then you need a different model polyswitch.

    http://www.mouser.com/Tyco-Electronics-Raychem/Circuit-Protection/PTC-Resettable-Fuses/_/N-5g3eZ1z1411n?Keyword=RXEF030&FS=True

I would strongly suggest that you replace them and not bypass them given the info you've provided.

I'm planning to go "Old School" by replacing my polyswitches with fast blow fuses in the appropriate amperages. You could go that route too if you wanted to.;) Good Luck !

Today, I replaced the Polyswitches that were sent to my by Polk.:) Results?

To say there was a nice improvement is a complete understatement. After replacing the Polyswitches in my right speaker, I turned on my receiver to see what sort of difference was made and noticed the speaker was noticeably louder and sounded rejuvenated. After listening to some music, I came to the conclusion that the speakers have never sounded this good. It is like I have new speakers. I checked my SPL meter after playing some pink noise to see what sort of dB increase there was. I was measuring 78dB when I had the speakers calibrated to 75dB a few weeks ago. I know I'm not mistaking the difference in sound level for quality however. I have not even come close to loud yet since it is late at night but the difference in high frequency detail and natural sound of voices and instruments is mind-blowing. I can't believe the Poly-switches made THAT much of a difference. I urge anybody who has Poly-switches in their speakers who hasn't had them replaced to contact Polk and GET ON IT. Nothing beats a tweak like this...especially when it is FREE!

No, I know. My point was that of all of the tweaks I've made so far, nothing beats the improvement of this tweak that costs so little, free in my case.:D The improvement may not be as drastic for anyone else. I had my Polyswitches trip a few times and they were attenuated because of it. That makes a good difference in sound.

I think Onkyo gear has its place and can perform well when paired synergistically. That being said, I find that Polk SDA speakers demand high current amps, and I question whether Onkyo gear can provide feed that high current.

    Glad the polyswitch thing worked.

Oh no doubt. I know it can't sustain those power ratings, especially when other speakers are on. You can tell when it runs out of juice (for me, it's around 100dB). I am looking forward to leaving the rest of my speakers to the Onkyo so I can have my SDA's separately powered.
