When do you lose your audiophile card?

I'm sitting here thinking tonight when an audio enthusiast should just stop and turn in his audiophile card. After he settles on MP3 or an I-pod? When he reads and believes the RR link? Or is it something different?

At what point should the audiophile card be revoked?

For me? I think it is when an audiophile "believes".

Let's take a look at this word for a second, shall we? You may believe in the tooth fairy, you may believe in Santa Clause and you may also believe in the wicked witch of the east........BUT, [and there is a but] why would you have to believe in what you hear? You either hear it or you don't.

For me, if you feel you HAVE to believe then the only way of redemption is no pud whacking for 20 days and sacrificing all of your BLOSE, [fill in the blank ;)] gear to the audio gods. After that, your sins may be forgiven.

What is an audiophile? Do they have to register with local authorities?

I hear what I hear and I like what I like.

I don't care what anyone else hears or what anyone else likes.

I agree as long as you like what you hear that is what matters. I have a friend that tells me I do not have enough bass in my setup I tell him that it is balanced with what the music is nothing more.

Most of the younger generation have not a clue as to what real bass sounds like. They are used to extremely distorted, over-hanging, and over-leveled bass---it's like SUGAR.

Well I am 21 and have to agree with you. They only want bass bass and more bass and do not care how they get the music or song, they just download in whatever format they can find. Me I am totally different. I have to have the original cd I have to have it ripped in loss less. I have to have good smooth sound. I have to have good music not some crap that was thrown together in 4 days by some rapper. I want quality!!

When you question believing in what you hear. Last night I listened to a recording someone made and for whatever reason it sounded like the most real, dynamic thing I have ever heard. I played it again. It was just as good. I played it two more times. Still, awesome. I decided I couldn't trust myself and what I heard. I'm going to listen again tonight and see if it is still there. I don't believe it is but something was. What was it? I hope it comes back but I'm doubtful. Still, I did hear it.
