I have heard that the horns are not that great for reproducing the violins in Classical Music.

I can't really give you an opinion on this one.
I have been a Polkie since 1984. Monitor 7 were my first.
I do have some monster Klipsch L and R, center and rears, I like them.

    Still prefer Polk.

I know these weren't the type of speakers being discussed but I did get a chance to compare the Atrium60s to the same size Klipsch. The Klipsch were actually a bit brighter and I thought had better seperation but in my application the Polks had the fullness and handled the bass far better. Top 40, Rock, Hip Hop, Head Bangin go with the Polks. Light Jazz, Symphony, or the weather channel go with the Klipsch.

Mr trieitz 3. It has been over a year ago. Have no clue model number. Store possibly Best buy????? I have nothing againts Klipsch. For my ears , excessivly bright. I just personally do not like a horn tweeter regardless of brand. Now to my understanding 50% of all new theaters built are using Klipsch. I think that speaks for its self. Thats why they make Ford , Chevy ect. Everyone has a different taste. Sorry if you thought I was denting up Klipsch. I'm not. Just not my prefference.

I would not match a klipsch speaker with an Onkyo Amp. Too much brightness coming from both the speaker and the amp

Since this is only my second post, I don't want to make any enemies, but the Klipsch you buy in the big box store are not really Klipsch speakers. At some point in the mid-late 80's, new management came in. Klipsch started selling mass produced product made to a price point. Sound quality came second to profit. I'm not even sure they're made by Klipsch, at least not in Hope, Arkansas. The only way to get a true set is directly from Klipsch or on on the vintage market. I've had my 4.5's for 25 years or so and still going strong. I like 'em. But as many here have said, horns ain't for everybody. And they do like power.

I just bought my first set of Polks. It'll be interesting to see how they fare as time goes on.

    Welcome richamor...

No problem here. I think most of us have heard several tiers of Klipsch speakers...and it is about the horn....some like them some don't....but horns can and do fatigue.

In a movie theater you have a lot of sound proofing and panels, curtains, fabric chairs, carpeting and so on...using horns in there makes sense...you want to be BRIGHT and have good dispersion.

To post above. I woudn't call Onkyos 'bright' especially not with Polk speakers. Onkyo and Polk sound pretty good together...hardly bright...even the Klipsch I've heard on Onkyos sound fine for a horn.

When I think of bright I do not think Onkyo, myself. I find them a bit 'full' with a slightly 'less' detailed less harsh high end in fact, than many other AVRs..

Compared to what? Dare I say the word? :D

Onkyo is brighter than anything else I've owned.

I was waiting for the word to show up in SOMETHING today.... But we'll keep it hush hush for the moment. :p

But so far ( and yes, i know none of this is REAL high end), warmer than Kenwood, Adcom, "The word", Dynaco, Pioneer.

I have a very warm system (well, about as warm as it can get without tubes i would imagine), though at the moment, you could attribute a lot of that to the preamp, but even with various Adcom preamps, both powered and passive, it was still pretty warm.

I think i need to get my ears on some new stuff soon, though. I'm getting the itch in the worst kind of way. Around the holidays, go figure.
