How is Klipsch compared to polk?

you can see my setup below.....I found this on local craigslist and it looks to be a great deal when u look them up as single sales.....

I have never heard klipsch sound...

of course I would use my onkyo 806 instead of the denon which i could sell for almost $300 on ebay.....


so minus just the receiver how would u compare my setup compares to an expensive klipsch setup like u see there?

Klipsch vs polk is like pioneer vs alpine you are going to get back and forth about which one is better. I think the klipsch would sound better than what you have now. That being said I have listened to klipsch hi end belles and they are awesome never heard those though.

Belles are a bit different animal than what's in that listing.

That setup would be in your face, probably brutal highs, and LOUD. And that's about it. I wouldn't pay half of what he's asking.

Can't go wrong with either brand imo. It boils down to preference, really. Klipsch tends to be on the bright side with their horns - I happen to like a bright speaker. YMMV.

Polk and Klipsch...they sound very different, but I like them both.
I like the older vintage Klipsch.

I've heard this system sort-of.I had a bigger set. I think it's a great deal at 1000. or even less if you talk him down more.

You do have to like clear highs (bright) but they could be toned down.
That is a very expensive system, I know,.It might not be high-end one but it's knocking at its' door for a surround system..;)

Personally don't like a horn tweeter regardless of brand. Just doesn't sound natural to me.

I demoed a bunch of Klipsch stuff earlier this year and IMO they are way to "bright" They were mostly your standard brick & mortar line's but still comparable price wise to the Polk offering's. Those horn's are like an ice pick in the ear....

Plus i think the Polk's are more aesthetically pleasing

When I shopped for new bookshelf speakers a few years ago I first looked at Klipsch as I already had a pair. The store also carried Polk, so I was able to do A/B comparisons between the two. I listened to similar priced speakers. I ended up buying LSi9's as they blew away the equally priced Klipsch and even outperformed Klipsch that were well above the cost of the 9's.

Those are the crappier bottom end Klipsch products. The horns with compression drivers are much more mellow (RF-63/83).

When i shopped for new speakers a couple years back, I demoded Klipsh, energy and Polk. I finally chose Polk and never had any regrets. I do have some friends that prefer Kilpsh to Polk so basically it a simple matter of preference. Same here, I not attracted by any home speakers which uses horn type tweeters (those are for PAs). However, the deal maybe perfect for someone starting from scratch and looking for a low budget system.

this is a polk forum, so its probably not the best place to ask that question, but dollar for dollar, polk speakers blow away the klipsch, imo. especially in the lower price range. i got hooked on the polk sound on a $50 pair of t15 bookshelves that i cant seem to part with

I have to agree with domflame....if it's value the Polks will take the horny (pun intended) speakers any day of the week.

Klipsch horns except for their highest end are too horn loaded, can fatigue and even irritate the listener.

They sound LOUD because they are efficient--but the mids don't cut it...that's where the Polks shine! Polk is more laid back on the highs.

Got to go with FACE also...I've compared my SDA's SL2000s to the Klipsch horn...and though the 2000 can be bright they ain't nothing compared to those mini-trumpets in the Klipsch boxes...

Pretty shure they had those on display at the time, as i/other's have previously noted horn's don't cut it

Then every Klipsch I have heard must have been low end because I just do not like the horn tweeters. I believe if you have to upgrade that much for the more mellow klipsch then the Polks would be a better "value". I quess it also depends on what's driving them....

Its true that the higher end Klipsch have a more well rounded sound than the lower priced speakers, and they should. Most speakers sound better when you pay more for them. However, I think that for every Klipsch model, Polk has a better preforming alternative in the same price range. Its all a matter of personal preference though, and I will say that the gold woofers in the rf line look really cool . . .

They've got their strength in different areas... and Polk doesn't have anything in the Palladium range.

But i agree. Personally, in the current lineups, up until you hit the top of the Polk range, i prefer the Polk sound by a wide margin.

It ABSOLUTELY depends on what's driving them. If ever there was a speaker that was meant to be driven by tubes, horn-loaded speakers are. There are lots of vintage brands, not just Klipsch. And they can all sound incredibly smooth and detailed, without the harshness.

One of the best combos I've ever heard, was a pair of refrigerator sized Jensen's driven by the equally old, Marantz 9 tube amps.

IOW, I don't think Klipsch vs. Polk is an even comparison. They're different animals, and it will come down to amplification. IMO, there are fewer options to properly power horns, Polk speakers are not so finicky. Both can sound incredible.....it will boil down to personal preference.

I have heard that the horns are not that great for reproducing the violins in Classical Music.
