LED light out on RT1000p

Hopefully this is an easy fix: I've had these speakers since '99 and LOVE them but never knew there was a forum like this out there. I would have checked in sooner! Anyway, the issue is the LED light went out on one of my RT1000i tower speakers. I don't hear any output from the sub, though the midrange woofer and tweeter work. I've tried a couple of different receivers with the speaker to no avail. I pulled out the amp and the AC fuse looks good (wire appears intact and glass is clear). Also the transformer was warm (not hot) when I opened up the amp. I unplugged it just before pulling out the amp so this would indicate that power is flowing through the fuse, right? So the fuse is probably fine. What else would cause the LED light to go out? The other speaker works great and would to get this guy back in full effect again!
Any help on this would be appreciated.
thanks,
marcus

    Marcus,

Sounds like the amp itself has issues. You can troubleshooting by swapping the amps and seeing if the problem follows - but first, how is the speaker connected? Are you using the stock jumpers - and if so, are they in place and tight? You might try using the RCA input. Also, toggle the OFF / AUTO switch in the back a few times to make sure it's in the right position.

Welcome to the boards, always good to have another Polk fan!

    Cheers,
    Russ

    Russ,
Thanks for the reply. Yes, I am using the stock jumpers. They are on tight. I tried toggling the OFF/AUTO switch a few times to no avail. The LED light is still off and there is no sound from the sub. I was hoping it wasn't the amp, but things do seem to be pointing in that direction. :(

    Marcus,

Your title says "1000p" and in the post you state "1000i"?

Anyway, I have a pair of the 1000p towers myself and the light is out on one of my towers too. I believe the amp is dead because the sub no longer works. I've tried minor troubleshooting and found no results.

I've never fixed mine, but I have a dedicated sub-woofer in my 5.1 system so I don't use the tower's sub because I simply don't need it, and they don't perform all that well anyway. Plus, they always stay plugged in and consume useless power.

Let us know how much replacement are. I only paid like $250 for the pair when CC was going out of business, so its not worth spending too much on these.

Dan, They are 1000p's. Thanks for catching that. I don't have a dedicated sub so it would be nice to get this guy working again.

1000p and 1000i are pretty much the same speakers. 1000i has newer drivers and probably an updated crossover. p means 'powered', i probably means 'improved'...

Viperz, thanks for the explanation. I was wondering what the difference was.

Update: So I ended up calling customer service and they told me to send the amp to them to try an repair it ($40-60, since out of warranty). So I sent in the amp on 11/6, they got it 11/10, and called me 11/11 with their diagnosis: The amp can't be repaired and I need a new amp. So they offered to sell me an amp for $110, which I agreed to. So now I'm waiting for amp and will let you know how it works when it arrives. Hopefully, this will solve the problem.

That ticks me off. They recieved mine last week and they still have not even looked at when I checked yesterday. Mine is an amp module for a psw650 with the same problem. It would come and go for about a week and then just quit altogether. I hope they just repair it. This after I sent it to there old place becuase of outdated info on there web site. It originally cost $12 to ship ups ground but when it had to be redirected it cost another $18 even being a shorter trip.

"come and go" is called intermittent, and that's the worst type of problem to diagnose. Be patient.
