Also, I have a polk sub - bought it with the speakers... Will it be useless or un-needed with a two channel amp? Should I consider selling/trading it?

That in itself is a personal choice.

With a good amp to power your LSi15's I'd say you'll have plenty of bass available however you can use a sub and dedicate it to your lowest frequencies.

Whether we suggest you keep it or sell it depends what type of sub it is. What's the model of it?

The thing is.. to be quite honest, i just want these speakers for parties and get togethers. Right now, as long as it sounds good I think I can probably get away with using my MP3 files - which are for the most party high quality.

Did you check the ad Sal?
I just think being the original owner there's some sentimental value there for him...which in this case made him add a good $300 to the price lol.

Not a bad lil sub there! - http://www.polkaudio.com/homeaudio/products/recent/psw404/

I haven't heard it personally so I can't really suggest whether you should keep it or not. Again like Sal said, once you get things setup go ahead and try it and see what you like best.

The adcom 5500 amplifier should be enough to please you but of course more is better.

Keep in mind that your subwoofer has an internal amplifier, and does not need separate amplification to power it. The only thing that is sent to it is a signal of the audio from your preamp to the sub. We'll talk more about that later once you got your system situated. ;)

    Anytime!

If he doesn't take 450, well then don't feel too bad about offering him a lil bit more. The seller does need to realize though that he's trying to sell his gear off for a bit too much than the going rate in today's market.

Goodluck with everything! And if you've got a specific question or something, don't be afraid to ask!

    Hi,

Im new to this forum, and after reading some of the replies on the thread I decided it may be a good idea to post my question here. I do want to say that Im in the same boat as Rick above as far as electronics are concerned.

So here is my situation. I recently upgraded to LSi15's :) after thinking about them for a long time (12 months to be exact). Here is my current setup

    Amp: HK AVR 247, (http://manuals.harman.com/HK/Owner%27s%20Manual/AVR247om%20lores.pdf)
    speakers: Pair of LSi15's
    Sub: Cambridge P300HD

When I plugged these in, I didnt get the output that i was looking for. The manual has the following configuration for this amp:

50 Watts x 7, seven channels driven at full power at 8 ohms,
    20Hz – 20kHz, <0.07% THD (surround modes), 350 watts total
    • 65 Watts x 2, two channels driven at full power at 8 ohms,
    20Hz – 20kHz, <0.07% THD (surround off mode), 130 watts total

While reading other posts, I discovered that I could use the multiroom/SB (Remote Speakers) option on the amp for lower frequencies for my LSi's.(i think its called bi-wiring or bi-amping) Is this a safe option, some people have suggested that if you under power your speakers you could damage them and the amp?

There also has a connection for a pre-amp at the back. While this is something I could invest in, I cant look at spending more $200 max at this point.

do you think I should power the speakers with the bi-wiring option? or is that a big no no.

    External amp, enough said :D

You'll see I've been trying to get to that in the posts above when helping Rick out. Btw, you can make your own thread if you wish that way you can ask further questions and not take away from the OP.

    Welcome to CP!

Thanks Freddy, I was struggling with the new post, in trying to find it.

What kind at options should i be looking at for the external amp given my amp (AVR 247) total output? I'm think it has a part to play in the decision making process. also can you recommend any that I should be looking at?

    Thanks much!

my 2cents - if the idea is to keep it simple, then the computer could be used as the volume control and equalized (depending on the software), and so long as the computer has rca connections. if it does not - A DAC will be required.

after that - run left and right RCA cables to the amps inputs and from the amps outputs to the powered sub.

    just a thought
