don't know if anyone was waiting for this but next month Nextflix streaming will finally be officially available to the PS3. I'll be interested to see the quality. Tried the PlayOn software but was not impressed. Hopefully this will be much better, along with HD titles.

playon was on sale recently for $20 and I almost bit. However, I decided I would just buy a stand-alone blu-ray player with netflix streaming built-in. Still haven't bought one, but it will be nice to see it in action on the PS3 first.

I have it on the Xbox. It's decent and even some HD content but the quality is subpar compared to Blu Rays.

    Get an xbox

Sure thing. Just as soon as they make one that you only have to buy one time, and can play BluRay, oh yeah and stop charging for online use.

I guess I won't mention that a Live Gold subscription is required to use the Netflix application, in addition to what you pay for Netflix......On second thought, you can keep your xbox, and you can keep it out of a PS3 thread.

I nearly went and bought the roku. great thread we have here with good news

I use netflix on my 360 all the time. The kid loves it as he can get all the dora and spongebob he can handle. i swear he watches more netflix then the rest of the family watches tv and movies combined.

The video is ok, the HD is a little better. I wish that the sound was better though. I do not think that the stream 5.1 at all right now. Hopefully they will add that soon. It still does not really compare to DVD and definitely not to BD disk.

    Congrats PS3 users!!!

    Rear - RTiA3's

Apparently using a disk gets Netflix out of their exclusive partnership with Microsoft for the 360. Gotta love lawyers for getting around that!

The disk has been said to be temporary as well. I'd rather have a temp fix with a disk than have to wait longer.

I'm curious to see if PS3 users will get to do the party view that they have on the 360 or if that's 360 exclusive. Party view is great for some MST3K style mocking of crappy horror movies!

Tried it out at lunch. The menu system is kinda slow and kludgy. Gotta spend more time figuring out what buttons do what. Watched the beginning of Heroes Season 4 since it was in HD. The picture and sound was great -- huge step up from PlayON with a PC. Now I just hope Netflix can increase their HD library.

Do you know how it compares to the 360?

Have no idea as I don't have a 360. I'm sure the interface is quite crappy compared to the 360 though since its had such a headstart. Netflix is supposed to be integrated into the XMB sometime at the end of next year though, hopefully it will be more refined then.

I was quite surprised with the video quality though. That and the audio was sync'ed up perfectly, something I never could achieve with PlayOn. Also, I didn't notice any hiccups or stuttering -- all this over my PS3's wireless connection.

If you are new to streaming Netflix (like me), this is the link you'll want to bookmark/save:

    http://www.netflix.com/WiHD

shows the current HD selection. I've read that it might not be totally complete though, and its definitely not easy to search through.

EDIT: You have to be logged on for it to work, and you have to have enabled your PS3 as well. I tried that link before and it never worked for me. Today after enabling my PS3, it finally worked.

Got my disk today, and watching Classic Albums: Frank Zappa- Apostrophe/Overnight Sensation. Picture quality in SD, is very, very good. Maybe a notch below upscaled dvd....menu is a little slow, but once a show is selected, the time from 'go', til it starts, is very impressive.

Any idea when 5.1 will be available?

I got my Disc yesterday and loaded it this morning. It seems to be like the LG Blu ray players, just the ability to watch your streaming Que. This is fine but the Xbox 360 allows you to select things on it's menu that are not in your Que.
I'm just happy to have another place to stream as I can take the ps3 into my Masterbed. This is very nice.

No, it allows you to browse different categories. They could do a better job of describing the controls.....Push up, to change category, then down to browse.
