Trying out Different Audio Cables is a Religious Affair. You don't discuss it with anyone.:biggrin:

"It remains a fact that sand, lead and rubber materials are a solution to treat the negative effects of resonance and vibrations. However, these materials absorb dynamics and micro-dynamics when used with audio and acoustical equipment. They literally soak up and destroy the energies that make the musical presentation exhilarating."

Do they think we just fell off a turnip truck? I bet your couch soaks up vibrations too. I think carpet soaks up vibrations. Hey, if oxygen-free copper is good for cables, how about oxygen-free air for your listening room? Oops, sorry. I didn't mean for you to try that last suggestion.

I don't believe they soak up anything but badness and allow the unit to replicate and perform a duty without any outside influence...the rest is also a variable and I'll handle that as I see fit. I don't agree with the "however" comment at all.

I think the pennies would work almost as well as the lead shot. The plus side is that you wont have to worry about how to dispose of it in the future.

I'm sure the reason lead shot is preferred by alot is because of the density of lead. A speaker stand filled with lead is going to weigh alot more than one filled with sand, thus withstand vibrations better.

    ...found this on another forum

..To save some money (and possibly get better sound in the bargain) you might try layering different materials for damping. Most people put a layer of shot on the bottom for ballast, then some fine grain sand and top it of with a layer of kitty litter. Each material has its own damping quality and will keep the stands from ringing at any one frequency as they might with just one material.

....here is the whole thread...think this forum is humorous.

I've never heard a stand ring in the first place.

...then "WHY" are lead and sand the MOST popular materials? I know weight !!

..But "HOW" critical is damping effect?

...Wouldn't a combination of "PENNIES" (soft copper and other), PLUS sand (kitty liter unused) as fill for compacting...be cheap alternative.

    ..."JUST a THOUGHT" !!!

....and at "60" thinking is "exorcise".

    ....> Enjoy the MUSIC !!!!

I know there is know limit to how cheap someone can be and I would entertain the idea of pennies as filler if they fit thru the dime sized hole in my stand.

OHHH I thought you meant used kitty litter....sure glad you added that disclaimer for everyone else.
