Yes, it does matter....watch them on the PS3. The PS3 does a great job of upconverting them to 1080P

360 dvd quality is the worst - even worse than a $50 walmart player.

    go PS3.

I will disagree with that. They are about the same as a sony dvd player but yes use the PS3 for playback.

Bigaudio your very wrong . The xbox is horrible and it affects the frame rate . I know the xbox360 sucks because I have one and many other dvdp's including a $ 50 walmart 1

This quote is spot on , I cant believe any1 with common sense would argue

Who cares what the XBox 360 looks like in picture quality...

The thing sounds like a jet is landing in your room with that god awful fan.

I love my 360, except for watching DVDs. It does a terrible job of that. Please use your PS3

I dont mean to be rude but why would there even be a thread about this if you have both xbox360 and a ps3 ? Its extremely self evident that the xbox360 sucks

Just adding to the PS3 votes...I have one myself, my son has both. The PS3 definitely does a better job upconverting...better processing. And probably better built than the xbox which has a wonderful 'failure' rate--and is nosier as noted above.

I own both and a dedicated dvd player. I have tested quality between all 3 and found my dvd player to be better then both followed by the ps3 and coming up last was the xbox360.
I personally don't care for the xbox 360. I think it's built like crap . The failure rate of these unit s is completely unexceptable. I have had mine repaired once , then it failed again. I was out of warranty , got a new one , that failed out of warranty and I had to buy yet another one. The original xbox also had a high failure rate. I went through 4 units there. Microsoft in my opinion completely sucks **** and I wish they would go away. I hate them and all there products.
The xbox 360 is cool when it works. When it works , when it works. I say this over and over again as my axe is waiting to chop this **** in half. The games are great as I like to play video games. Netflix just got updated and I now can choose stream movies on the 360 which is where it should have been in the first place. Xbox live is second to no one. I as a gamer found this to be the ultimate gamer ground. I wished for such a thing back when I was playing my Super Nintendo. My Brother and my friends would all come over to our house to play Street Fighter and see who was the man. It was awesome Mortal Komat and many other games. The 360 is excellent here. If they had a better fighting controller I would like it even more.
The ps3 is a solid machine . I own the first one I purchased and it has not even shown a sign of "red ring of death" or any other stupid failure the 360 does. But the fan has got louder and I don't like that. You also can't control it IR or IP without other devices. That sucks. The 360 can be controller IR and I like that. The new Ps3 I understand is still the same way. How stupid is that??
As far as DVD playback, both machines are ok, the ps3's picture looks more like film then a cheap dvd player smear which is what the xbox looks like. The video quality is not as good. It's exceptable for a game system to play DVD. If you have nothing to compare it to ,it's fine. Blu ray is here and who really cares about top notch DVD performance anymore.
I have a Pioneer ELite DV58avi which I use for DVD. I never use the game systems for this role. Honestly my game systems are becoming less and less important to me. The ps3 I loved when I got it. Blu ray , music server , game system and you can go online??? Thats pretty damn impressive and still is. But over time I now have 3 other music servers or 4 if you count the Ipod jack in the front of my receiver. I rarely ever use the game side. I have like 6 or 7 ps3 games total with my son and I never use the Internet feature. So for me this player has really no place here anymore. I'll probably sell it and get the Oppo Blu ray player which I really like. Nothing wrong with the ps3 other then IR and fan noise. If they built IP or IR control in it , had a better fan I might consider keeping it. Or if there online gaming was as good as the 360 , then I would have no reason to want it out.
Sorry went off topic a bit but this topic struck a nerve.

I know the Xbox 360 DVD player sucks.

However - with a decent video processor, it can actually look quite good. (I'm talking about the DVDO units such as iScan VP50, or a Lumagen, etc.)
