Hello,

Anybody have any experiences with different in wall speaker wire? I know, not likely something people a/b as once it is installed there really isn't any swapping...just curious of peoples' insight. This would be for home theatre by the way.

Thanks,
Mike

I used in-wall wire from Ebay. 250 feet of oxygen free 14 gauge 4 connector rated CL3 for around $100. Just can't justify spending more for wire when my ears can't tell the difference, but my wallet does. The seller was JPSWIRESUPPLY, and no I am not affiliated, he shipped quick and it works for me...

I have tons of experience with many different brands of in wall speaker wire and I'll give you a brief review of my top favorite companies.

My top in wall wire for sound quality , actually I have 2 but Audioquest 14-2 is overall fantastic wire. In wall use and external use. Clear , detail , bass , mid's , highs all sound the way they are suppose to. I don't think this speaker wire adds or takes anything. I think it does it's job. Most of the time I feel there is no reason to buy anything else.

Liberty also makes incredible in wall wire. They have a THX series thats as good as the Audioquest. You can argue it's just as good . They also have a 12g version that I would feel good using on any speakers made.

Kimber Kwick series is another one of those cables that just perform. You can't go wrong with Kimber Kable for any wire need. Every single cable they make is top notch and can compete with anything made.

If I had to choose a wire to use forever I might just stick with Audioquest or Kimber but if someone told me I had to choose Liberty I could live with that choice and never feel the need for anything else. When you achieve correct signal transfer , you don't need magic boxes or fancy braiding to make it better. There is no need to overspend on wire. I know this as I have over spent on wire all of my audio life. I learned the hard way and found companies that do it right for a great price. All 3 companies don't silly over charge you for what you get. Sure if you buy there highest offerings , you can question why you are doing so. Like Audioquest there entry level speaker wire isn't far off there top of the line. When you listen , you will learn that once you achieve the goal , your done.

    Dan,

You state Audioquest wire for in-wall, have you used BlueJean Cable speaker wire for in-wall? And if so what would say it compared to the Audioquest wire?

I have only used HDMI from BlurJeans. They worked fine.

Wow...I had written this thread off.

I was looking at the Audioquest wire as it is quite inexpensive. However, I have a run of about 35-40 feet for the rear in-ceiling speakers and am not sure if 14 guage is ideal...nor do they make a 12 gauge.

Some other wire I have been considering is some of the offerings from Beldin.

JPSwiresupply...is that actual JPS wire as this is very highly regarded.... if it is legite. BTW thanks for registering to inform me of this.

    Thanks for all the responses.

    Regards,

No the JPSwiresupply is the seller, the actual wire is made by Remee, and is nothing fancy, but meets the in-wall building codes. Good luck in your search...

I agree wire is wire. I am just saying if someone wired your house with X and told you it was X you would not be able to tell the difference. It is all in your mind.

    Mike,
I used 14 gauge for my 4 rear speaker runs. They were all 30+ feet runs (now behind drywall) and the rear channels are working great! I just used inexpensive 14-2 speaker wire. Regarding your question of 14 vs 12 gauge, I posted the same question a couple of years back and was told that it is better to use 14 gauge wire for longer runs so as to avoid signal loss.

I though that it would be better to run thicker wire as to not lose signal?

Any idea how that Audioquest 14-2 would do for car stereo applications?

Twisted pair construction would hopefully shield out a lot of noise by design (?)

Why would you question that?? Don't you believe everything you read on the net?? :D

Well, to be honest, i think it's also thicker guage for longer runs.

But i also don't agree with different cable sounding different being all in your head. I can hear a large difference between the 3 types of crap cable that i run. They all sound like crap, but they sound like different crap.

I stand corrected, a thicker wire does provide less resistance however the resistance of 14 gauge wire shouldn't be a problem on runs less than about 80 feet.

Check this link out. Quite helpful.

:confused:why? If the reason is because of the viewpoint expressed in parts of the page regarding type of wire not making a difference, that wasn't the reason for the post. However, the information about wire impedance, resistance, etc is useful.

Here's what I use in my H/T and I'm very happy with it. BJC Ten White (5T00UP) (White jacket, 10 AWG)

    http://www.bluejeanscable.com/store/speaker/index.htm

I read about it in an article reviewing a set of speakers. Guy said that's what he uses in his "professional" reviews. That article plus the good things I've heard about Blue Jeans Cable here at CP convinced me to give it a shot. I needed something that wasn't too expensive because my total tun is close to 200ft.
