To be clear, you used the 'upgrade' disk/image, yes?

From RC, -> upgrade disk same partition -> Win7 Pro

Ok so you did a Win7 pro over Win7 RC right?

What happens if you did a clean update? You know wipe disk and start over, does that work ;)

Dude this is an awesome find! Im running the RC since June and I freaking love it! 10 times better than XP and Vista. I was dreading having to do the clean install and then re-install all my games and everything else. This is great! Plus, the upgrade version is available for $80 shipped on Newegg vs the $110 OEM version.

It will allows you to do custom install too and start from scratch, but why?

Oh c'mon Dan. It's actually a very stable Windows, I've been waiting for it since 2001 when XP went into production. Beside, it's a good practice to work on VMWare Fusion 3.0 and Windows 7 next week, when 3.0 is released, on my MBP! Learning new stuff is fun, especially when there is no reason to choose one over the other.

I'll be trying this later on today. If it fails and hoses my RC installation it really does't matter because I was going to delete the partition it was on anyway before I installed Win 7 HP. So it appears that there really isn't anything to lose.

    Thanks for the tip/hack.

For those that are interested I was able to "upgrade" Win 7 RC to Win 7 Home Premium using the above fix.

All went smooth and it took 50 minutes to complete.

Well for windows people I guess this is a blessing. But if you look at Windows track record, they bring out a OS and it's good , then a new one and it sucks then the cycle repeats.

    Example.
    Windows , windows 95 , windows 98 , ME , 2000 professional , XP , Vista , now 7 . Back and forth.

I wish they would just release stuff that works good and then build on top of it with no problems , but I guess thats asking to much.

I did un upgrade from Vista Ultimate toi Win7 Ultimate and it went alot better than any upgrade that I have done in the past. I didn't have to reload anything and it worked on the first start. Win7 is a hell of a lot faster then Vista so that was worth it for me. Had Vista RC when it first came out and went back to XP and waited until Vista was released to the public. I was sorry that I had done that but I lived with it and was real glad to see Win& come out. Win7 is what Vista should have been.
