They have those new subs coming out, I think it will be awhile before we see a new line, especially something in the LSi range, too bad.

Why too bad? The LSi series is an amazing value for the dollar. Model by model they will be very hard to beat, for the dollar or otherwise!

Hey fireshoes. If you want something close to the LSi at 8ohms, take a look at Rocket speakers. They use ring radiators as well.

New top of the line would most likely translate into lower prices for the LSi's, for several reasons. Dollar for Dollar they may make fine competitors, but they aren't free ;)

Oh I'm fine personally with them being 4 ohm, but a lot of people take them off their list because they would need a major upgrade on their amp too.

I just got back from a Polk dealer in Idaho. I believe they may be the top Polk dealer in all of Idaho. I could be wrong. Anyways, they love Polk there, and like us, seem to have only good things to say about the LSi series. Anyways, I was talking to one of the store owners and he said that Polk is considering a new line sometime soon that will be better than the LSi series, and the cheapest models will sell for $5000 a pair. He knew nothing about them, just that they were thinking about this and they wouldn't be cheap at all.

I don't see it that way at all. I would LOVE for them to do this. It just reaches more people. Also, as I saw another executive put it, if you have $200,000 car, you'll sell more $100,000 cars. It just adds to your company's legacy and reputation.

I don't think that they're going to sell more speakers because they wanna make one that's gonna be 25-30x more expensive than their most expensive model out. It'll be interesting nonetheless......

I agree totally. How many 300 and 600 and CM Series speakers do you think B&W sells because of the reputation Nautilus and Prestige series. A lot I think. After all...it's ok to get the $300 DM303 because it IS a B&W. However a $300 RT25i is inferior because you can buy it at CC. (and the RT25i is the better speaker IMO)

I too would like to see a more efficient LSi series if for no other reason than a greater choice in amplification.

More efficient meaning 8 ohm? I thought that the lower the ohm, the more efficient the speaker........no?

A top of the line speaker can be good for the lower lines as well. Infinity's CMMD (ceramic metal matrix diaphragm) ( A cone material) was developed for the 10,000 dollar preludes, but it trickled down all the way to the IL10's, which you can get for like 200 dollars now. Plus it may make for some great deals on the used market, many more can stomach a 600 dollar ebay'ed pair of RT3000p's than they could the $3000 new price.

It must be nice to have a dealer that is informed, after the LSi series was announced on the web but about a month before they made it into stores I went into my local graffiti audio and asked about them and they had no idea until he called polk himself.

Look guys, Polk built it's name with the early Monitor series, then the SDA series, which really made alot of people stand up and take notice. Today Polk seems to be digging itself out of a hole with the LSi series. Selling speakers at CC may be a way to generate capital, but isn't anyway to be taken seriously. They need to produce a truly high-end speaker to get back in the game. I just got the latest issue of Stereophile and to my pleasant surprise, there is a full page ad for Polk speakers. However the heading says, "High-end speakers from Polk? You can't be serious." Instead, wouldn't it be nice to hear, when you tell someone that you own Polks, the same awe and envy that some other speaker names invoke? I think so. Like shack's viewpoint, Polk could do the same as B&W and cover all ground. I say, "bring'em on boys, just make them SDA's."

Is it a possibility that the soposed $5000 series could be a modernized version of the SDA SRS.

If you want 8ohm LSi, buy 2 pair, run them in series.

I'd like to see an RT55 rebirth, or something like the RT7 with a larger mid--bass.

Additionally, a floor standing LSi7, with or without perhaps a side firing 6.5 (like the rti150 driver).

    Cheers,
    Russ

If you run two sets of LSI's like that, wouldn't you be dropping the running OHM load down to 2? I thought that the more speakers that you tried to run off of one speaker input on the receiver/amp, the lower that the OHM load dropped........Teach me oh great ones......

If speakers are parallel the load is divided by 2. If they are series it's doubled. Keyword there - SERIES!

I get that partially.........but how does that translate into wiring into 2 sets of towers that have 2 sets of binding posts each?

And what's the benefit to running a set of speakers like that? Ultimately then, I could be running both pair of my RT16's off my receiver, but from people I've heard talk about that it'd make everything sound like shiat....out of phase, etc......

With biwireable speakers, I don't know. If you want to translate it to speakers with a single set of posts then just substitute the + and - symbols on the woofers in the diagrams with the + and - on the home speakers. But then you have to deal with the crossover and all and it would proabably sound better just getting a better amp :)
