    Nah, i'm no santa claus. :p Don't have that kind of money, and this is honestly my "secondary" hobby. My cars take the majority of my money from me.

    I hear ya.. while not as expensive as cars my primary hobby is actually Transformers toys.. and that is not cheap, especially when trying to track down original G1 toys from 25 years ago.. not hard to find per se, just not cheap.. I've got well over 400 pieces and thousands of dollars wrapped up in it, but I'm already thinking about selling some toys to get an amp and decent CD player. And even though i've only had the Monitors for a few weeks.. I'm thinking at some point i'm going to want to upgrade into RTia7's or 9's for my fronts. So we'll see if that switches my primary hobby over at all hehe
    Main 2ch -
    BlueSound Node->Ethereal optical cable->Peachtree Audio Nova 150->GoldenEar Triton 2+
    TT - Pro-ject Classic SB with Sumiko Bluepoint.

    TV 3.1 system -
    Denon 3500 -> Dynaudio Excite 32/22

    I have to chime in on the 545ii also. After owning one for just over 2 weeks, I am very impressed, mostly with the fact that it has taken the "edge" of my RTiA9s vs. my AVR...sound is warmer overall. I have also ran it loud as possible without damaging my hearing, and the thing is warm at best, while my sc-05 will run 2-3X's as hot just being used as the pre. I have already been trolling Ebay for a second one to run my rears and then maybe a 535 for the center channel.

    Yep, they're very solid amps. Great for getting your feet wet, and far beyond if you like it. :D

    A good one. :p

    I'll be honest and say that the GTP-series sound good to me, but not with Adcom amps. That was pointed out to me AFTER the fact, that the GTP-series are considered "low end" and not REAL desireable, and tend to sound a bit grainy and harsh with the "lower" Adcom amps. On the flip side, for the ~$100 price range, you can't really go wrong with one. They're very solid performers for the price point, and even my GTP-400 sounded pretty sweet once i threw on my Oinker amp.

    My suggestion? Get the amp, then grab whatever looks decent to you within your budget to start for a preamp, and when you get fidgety with it, try something else.

    You may want to make another thread about the preamp, outlining your budget. I wouldn't want you to buy something just off of my recommendation alone. I mean, look at my rig, THAT'S not supposed to work. :p
