Female IEC Inlets

I'm currently upgrading power supplies, cords, etc. and inherited a box of parts with several female IEC inlets from a friend who used to repair televisions and computer monitors .

There are 2 medium quality 15A inlets marked "Yamate AP-300" that have wires attached (easily removable as they are connected with terminals).

The wires are run through a metal ring (a magnet will stick to it) as shown in the image below.

What is the purpose of the metal ring?

I plan on re-using these in non-critical components and wonder if I should remove the ring or if there is a benefit to using it.

Aso, I've heard great things about Furutech Nylon IEC Inlets with Cryogenic Rhodium Plated Bronze contacts for highline applications. Are there other recommended IEC female connectors members have had good luck with?

    Do you want warm sounding or a little tipped up.Check out IeGO IEC inlets.I would go with the silver but damn there expensive.The gold plated copper ones are easy on the wallet.

    That ring is too reduce any EFI noise from the AC.

    IIRC it is a ferrite core which keep's the cord from becoming an "antenna" :confused:
