Wow, for a thread started by TF, trying to flog his gear, this has become interesting. I'm not sure I really have an ulitmate favorite, but these are the ones I keep coming back to as having a special impact for me. Each of them has something quite unique, that sets it apart from the crowd I.M.O.

    - The Fifth Element.
    - The Silence of the the Lambs, and sequels.
    - Eyes Wide Shut (even if Tom Cruise barely carried it off, IMO).
    - Swordfish.
    - Pulp Fiction.

A lot of movies that I liked have already been mentioned, and it doesn't surprise me that they have been selected as an "ulitmate favorite of all time", even if I would not describe them as such.

    - Star Wars, even though some mistakes were made.
    - Star Trek.
    - Back to The Future.
    - Independence Day.
    - Aliens.
    - Titanic.
    - Matrix.
    - Lord of The Rings.
    - Blade Runner.

Other movies that I like have been metioned, but I am surprised that they would be selected as an "ulitmate favorite of all time", with emphasis on "ultimate" and "of all time".

    - Falling Down.
    - Dances With Wolves.
    - The Player.
    - Excalibur.

Of course, there are others that I liked, but not that much, and still others that have been mentioned that I did not like at all. It obviously surprises me that anyone would consider these their "ultimate favorite of all time"!

    Goodfellas

I generally love the darkness of Martin Scorsese movies.

Great music in that movie as well.

Says the guy who has SWORDFISH (a movie I can't even imagine people LIKING, let alone saying is their favorite) and EYES WIDE SHUT (arguably Kubrick's worst movie) on his list of best all-time?
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

LOL! Well, if there's one thing this thread proves, other than the widespread attraction of Science Fiction in general, is that different people really like very different kinds of movies.

Actually, if you think of some potential "all time great" possibilities, like Citizen Kane, or Gone With the Wind, they probably won't get mentioned by most people just because they were in black and white, or exaggerated "old style" acting, or just lousy sound and special effects compared to modern movies ...

Gotta admit Kex, when I saw "Swordfish" and "Eyes Wide Shut" in your list i was puzzled. Those two movies are widely regarded as crap and I tend to agree.
Just goes to show... there is no accounting for personal taste. ;)

I also agree "Citizen Kane" is prolly my favorite classic film, it just isn't in heavy rotation.

LOTR trilogy gets more repeat action than almost anything else in my collection and I am dying to get the extended BD version.

Swordfish may be a personal quirk, that I just enjoyed at the time, but Eyes Wide Shut, according to wikipedia (!) is "considered a cult film". I agree, though, I am a bit odd myself, so maybe that explains some of my choices!

Although not a personal favorite, I think 'A Clockwork Orange' belongs somewhere on a top-ten list (though certainly not a single best). I don't expect many people to like it as its sort of designed NOT to be appealing and make you uncomfortable but I think it was brilliantly innovative nonetheless.

    Music Man
    Hairspray
Moulin Rouge - I'm a sucker for musicals...

Don't know if this counts as a "movie", since it's mini-series, but I have to say Band of Brothers

Can't wait for "Pacific" to come out (I think that's the title of the "sequel"?)

I don't remember that scene that way. King Aurthar uses the sword to beat Sir Lancelot and breaks the sword. He admits his mistake and the Lady of the Lake returns the sword repaired.

Supper accurate fun movie about King Arthor.
