I'm curious if upgrading from a Denon DVD-2200 to a DVD-3910 will be a noticeable improvement if I am using an external DAC for processing the sound instead of the player anyways...

Just depends on where you would be happy with your system.
lots of people are happy with a stand along CD player. and other's like to add an external DAC.
