RT55 vs Monitor 5A

FYI, with those dinky heat sinks..............there's no Class A involved in that amp. Tubes are good . To put things in perspective my Aleph is 30 wpc into 8ohm and 40 wpc into 4ohm. It pretty much runs wide open even at idle. It idles at 225 watts and it has filter capacitance of 60,000uF.
It ain't.......I repeat it ain't about watts or dynamic power."Appreciation of audio is a completely subjective human experience. Like I said, I am sure a good external amp will do better and I'd love to try some tubes. I just don't want folks to confuse the receivers of yesteryear with the crap that is being pushed today. My AVR-888 can't touch the DRA-835 for SQ. It managed the bass very nicely but the sound stage was rather dimensionless. But it does well at what it was designed to do and I got it cheap.
Aleph. Now that's a heat sink. What do they sell for these days? Weren't they about $2500 new in '97?
What was this thread about again?Stan

I gotcha.........wasn't trying to upset............just give some perspective. I will say the RT55 and that generation of RT series is probably the nicest sounding of all the RT series. That was a great tweeter and they sound bigger than they look.
I'll reiterate, it's probably not going to solve your problem and even as nice sounding as the RT55's are I still personally prefer the classic Polk's. I much prefer the passive radiator to any ported Polk and that even goes for the LSi series.
Good luck on finding that combo that both you and misses can live with

P.s. When I say I prefer classic Polk's that is of course after the RD0's and x-over refresh has been done."Appreciation of audio is a completely subjective human experience. Hey Stan,
If you want to hear the '55 with your set up, you can try them out for as long as you like no strings attached.
You could also bring the 5a over here and hook them up to my stuff if you'd rather.
Just a thought.
