Very nice setup in the basement. I noticed you said you wanted a sub upgrade. I suggest 2 subs. One move that movie bookcase somewhere else or out of the room. It's ugly and it's taking up valuable sub space. Place one sub there. Over in the right it looks like a sump pump room. I suggest you have or do it ourself , cut out a sub in the wall with trim and grill cloth. Place sub on custom stand inside the sump pump room. Elevated a few inches over the hole so if it backs up , the sub will not get wet.

This will give you good coverage and pressure in that large open floor plan room. I would probably use 2 Velodyne SPL1200R's or if there is no room in the closet a single SPL1500R. This will bring everything up a notch.

As far as I can see , the front array is placed pretty good for theater, if you move the bookcase, you could position them slightly wider apart.

I love theater in the basement. I also love the open floor plan. It makes the space more usable.

Thanks for all the great feedback!!! Friday nights are pizza and movie night. We really enjoy it. Still not satisfied with the sound though. I know bigger/more subs will help. Mantis, thanks for your input on the subs. I have thought about two subs in the front and one in the sump closet, so we're on the same page. I don't know if the funds will allow two. That Epik deal is very tempting. I'm missing that big sound I'm looking for. Maybe an amp would help? Any Polkies in the Chicago area that are really good at fine tuning a sound system....payment in beer and a game of pool?
