Indeed, as it should be!
That's what's so great about more modern-day self-powered subs; you can just run a coax connection between the receiver's sub out to the sub, and quad junkies rejoice! BASS! -
I've found the Polk PSW's and DSW's pretty straight forward to set up using either the LFE input or the speaker inputs. I own several of each type.
The other day I set up a pair of PSW10's with speaker inputs connected to a pair of Monitor 50's. They make a nice combo. I have 4 PSW505's in my master bedroom home theater and one in my 2 channel testing/listening room.
You have four psw505s.....
Uh. Wow.I don't read the newsssspaperssss because dey aaaallllllllll...... have ugly print.

I'm not sure on the proper setup of my PSW505 on my Onkyo TX-SR607. The PSW505 has an LFE (unfiltered input) and L/R Line In (filtered input). The TX-SR607 has two PRE OUT jacks.
If I'm reading the TX-SR607 manual correctly, I should connect the PRE OUT to Line In on the sub. While the sub has L/R inputs, I connected to the Left side only.
According to PSW505 manual, when using PRE OUT from the receiver I should set the subwooker to off in my receiver. However, my receiver has the Audyssey setup, so it seems I should have it on for it to perform the calibration.
Not sure if I did it right or not. Also not sure how I should have the crossover frequency dial setup on the sub during the calibration.
Anyone know the proper setup?

I'll bring the beer....when we watching Master and Commander? I believe you have a subwoofer sickness. Why not simplify? Have you thought about getting a newer Polk subwoofer?CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

Ah. I guess that makes a little more sense. Kindof. I think i'd still be replacing them all with some Micropros.I don't read the newsssspaperssss because dey aaaallllllllll...... have ugly print.

Yea, some of those have to go anyways.
I really like the overall performance of the DSW600. It's very fast and tight.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint. -
Hey guys, thanks for all the comments so far- it really helps.
I recently picked up the onkyo 607 & polk audio 505 combo. I'm using my onkyo's sub pre outs and I'm having some audio troubles. It doesn't sound as loud as I expected. I tried following all of the instructions listed but I'm not making much progress.
I'm not the most knowledgeable when it comes to these setups and I'm hoping you guys can help. I'm thinking there's a chance I'm not using the right type of audio cord. I've tried the type of connection used with red/white/yellow audio video connections. Is this the right type? You say use coax but i'm not entirely sure what that looks like. Can you give a product link?
Thanks in advance -
For the PSW505, connect your subwoofer cable to the LFE IN.
For your receiver subwoofer You need to set your Subwoofer to "ON".
Also set your LPF on the LFE to "80Hz".
For the PSW505:
Set the Power to Auto (middle position)
Phase to 0 (try both 0 and 180 and listen to what sounds better)
Volume at 12 o'clock.
Hi Guys,
I recently purchased a Denon AVR4311 and using it with a PSW505 but have been concerned perhaps the sub is not optimised to its full potential because it does sound quite underwhelming and seemed to have more impact when it was connected to an older Yamaha AVR.
I do struggle to absorb the technical stuff, but just wondered if the above settings would also apply when using the Denon 4311?
I currently have my PSW505 hooked into the Left channel of the (Filtered) Line In which was how I had it connected to the older Yamaha AVR and seem to think that could be incorrect based the above information?
Any help and clarification is greatly appreciated.
Cheers, Pete. -
Okay, since my last post I have plugged the PSW505 to the 4311 AVR using the LFE IN and changed the crossover settings on the AVR from 250hz to 80hz, set the LOW PASS to 60. The changes when watching Bluray are amazing and finally I can hear just how much bass the PSW505 can belt out, but also the depth of the bass was also impressive.
On the downside I have noticed watching FTA broadcasts the PSW505 is barely registering any activity, if at all. Is there something I have overlooked or need to address to get the PSW505 working with FTA?
Cheers, Pete. -
I don't know what a FTA broadcast is but different stations output different broadcast signals. Some stations sound fine on my equipment then when I switch channels the sound can be terrible. I think it all depends on the broadcast station. You might have to use a different mode for that station. ?

Hi rebuy,
FTA = Free to air (normal television viewing).
I did venture into the Denon AVR settings and managed to get the PSW505 working with FTA and also in stereo mode.
I now find the bass somewhat boomy and bloated in stereo mode and not sure which frequency setting I should have the AVR crossover set at. For the main speakers I'm using standmounts and have them set on the AVR as "small".
Cheers, Pete.
