Today I got the last pieces for my next little project. Just wanted to share the size of these caps (30uf Obbligato).

Great choice in resistors and inductors. I haven't tried Dynacaps yet, but the Obbligato caps that I've tried sound pretty good."He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. Those inductors are HEAVY. And for some reason when I saw the Duelund resistors I thought I should light them up and smoke them_________________________________________________

My start will be redoing the crossovers in my 1C's this winter. Wish me luck as I am sure to be asking some questions, some stupid I am sure.Polk Audio SDA 2.3tl Fully Hot Rodded. 😎

A few weeks ago, I had my local hi-fi dealer over to listen to my setup. I had a few of those resistors sitting on the table, he thought they were incense sticks."He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. Go for it; when I did my first xover a few years ago I had never used a solder iron. It's really easy, and once you get started you just want to keep going._________________________________________________

Pardon the dumb question, but are those caps lytics? I could use some nice quality but need 1100mfd and 1400mfd bipolars.

No, those are film caps. Lytics don't belong in speaker crossovers."He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you." Friedrich Nietzsche

Thanks Face, I kind figured that, but I'd never seen any terminated that way. Ricardo ,
I listened to the speakers in such a way that one speaker was complete with the wooden frame and up graded cross over , the other speaker was left in it's original configuration ( original frame with upgraded cross over ) .
What I heard , was that the wooden framed speaker sounded more realistic , that is the bass was deeper , the midrange was so sweet, and the high end seemed to be better ( cleaner and more detailed ) .
That was my initial impressions , now fast forward a year later , and having the ability to put bone stock MMG's next to my modded MGII's . . . The modded speakers ( MGIIs ) are more detailed in the sound , the bass is quicker and has more extension IMO . The mid range is just so natural and life life , it still causes me to pause .
The high end is better on the MMMgs IMO , the quasi-ribbon tweeter sounds better than the wire tweeter on the MGIIs . . . I'm not complaining tho , I love the high end from my MGIIs , I just wish it was a quasi-ribbon tweeter .
I listen to Rock n Roll , Blues , Classical , just about all genres of music , and I have not found a genre of music that I don't like on my MGIIs , the just sound so Life Like . . . no kidding , you will See !!!
I'm working on a pair of MGI's right now, I'll go into more detail once they are done, which be latter this year , or maybe next year ( torn rotator cuff surgery has things on hold for now ) . These will be hybrids , that is , these will have quasi-ribbon tweeters installed , instead of the tweeter wires ( I've all ready have the quasi-ribbon tweeters installed , and I'm waiting on some help to come up with a suitable cross over to use ) .
If the above works like I expect it to , I'll redo my MGIIs with the quasi-ribbon tweeters also . . . and I think these will be killers lol I much prefer the sound stage that the taller MGIIs place in my room vs the MMGs , the MMGs are only 4' tall, and they seem to be limited on the size of the sweet spot .
The height of the modded MGIIs are 70"s tall , the MGIs will be around 60 "s
and the MMGs are 48 "s tall . . . I have the MMGs at a friends house , letting the Maggie Bug take hold of him lolol -
Thanks Stephen. Pretty much what everyone says about deeper/tighter bass, which is one of the shortcomings of these speakers. Can't wait to get started on this one; not sure what I'll do with the highs....I had to use a 1 ohm resistor with the stock MMG's. I will include the resistor in the mods, and take it from there.
Get well soon!!_________________________________________________

I have rebuilt my MGII's with Solen polypropylene caps (did not replace inductors). Not sure about the sound change (had to replace tweeters too just after I got the speakers), but I can tell you that it takes quite a bit of time to burn in those damn caps. The sound did change when the caps got burned in (and with my listening frequency it took a few months).
I hope I'll be able to find decently priced Maggies with ribbon tweeters in my area... IMHO, flat panel Maggies without ribbons don't go as high as I'd like them to go. Right now I have two amps hooked up to my Carver C-1. Dynaco ST-70 is driving the Maggies (which doesn't help, since tubes don't like highs that much), and one of Carvers (M-1.5t now) is driving RT1000p polks.
Good luck with your rebuild!

FYI: those resistors need a little break in. They will sound bright for the first few hours or so, then mellow out by 10 hours.
If you tap of flick the Obbligato's, do they ring or resonate?

Nope; they sound pretty solid to me._________________________________________________
