There was a deal for a 50% discount on pre orders a while back... I though about buying two and selling one after it hit the shelf... free license in the end that way

Meh my 5 year old mac is still kicking and will be replacing it with another mac. Once you go mac you never go back. Also one thing to think of the earlier vista shipped computers have encryption on the motherboards so it is going to be difficult to upgrade to 7.

    Theres always one isn't there.....

Encryption on motherboards? Where do you Mac fan boys come up with this stuff?

I have test systems here that I have installed almost every operating system on, and have had no issues with upgrading from Vista to 7.

Of course I haven't installed any Mac OS, as our users actually need to be able to get some work done.

Funny learning it in college and I repair computers on a bi-weekly basis. They put something on the boards so you could not downgrade to xp and in this case upgrade.

I have macs, linux boxes and windwos 7 RTM boxes (MSDN Member) they all work good, and they all have their own little issues, but I like them all. I'm sure I would never be happy locked into just one platform. I like and hate them all at the same time...

If you like what you using, great, if you don't like what someone else is using, that's great too, but calling people names for their OS choice is kind of pointless isn't it? What do you really accomplish by doing so? It's all just opinion in the end... The mac vrs. windows debate has been going on for years all over the Internet, do we really need to drag into an audio forum too?

    Just my $.02 worth.

Yes, it always does. It's either Mac morons who think the PC serves no purpose and is unstable or the **** boy PC users who have no understanding how much better many apps run on Macs.

I own both a MacBook Pro and several PCs, which I use daily. The Mac is for all of my graphic design work, where it kicks any PCs ****. The PC is mostly for gaming and web browsing.

The thing I will say about my MacBook Pro is that it hasn't had a single issue in the nearly 3 years I have had this one. My PCs have only had minor issues.

If these tools could get over the fact that they are both functional platforms rather than measuing their dicks we could get beyond all of this.

Great, I repair computers every day for a living, and have built well over 100 a year. I have never seen a computer that could not be downgraded to XP, or upgraded to newer versions such as Vista and 7. Sometimes it's difficult to find drivers for new laptops when installing XP, but I've always managed.

Surely if there really was some encryption on motherboards, that stops you from upgrading or downgrading, you could point us toward some relevant information? Is that really what they taught you in college? That there is "something on the boards"? Just what school did you go to?

    Ever read the Vista EULA?

Win7 and netbook users, it will scale to a Netbook/Atom based box. That's pretty light for it's feature set. Total install for me was about 45 minutes (laptop), and it found all but one of the correct and updated hardware drivers automatically at install. The other item worked, just did not have all of it features until update (touchpad).

The board builders did not code drivers for xp. It's that simple. You should have learned that first thing. Sometimes it just takes a tweak of a line in an .inf file for the vista drivers and the same drivers work fine downgrading to XP. Google it. I've done it.
Call it a conspiracy among OEM builders due to Microsoft pressure, and I'd probably agree.

Say in a Mac thread that MacOSX is a great OS and I'd definitely agree- they wrote a great shell for Unix without crippling Unix, simple as that. One day they'll even figure out a decent laptop touchpad and a dual-button mouse, doh.:p
    Seriously, Gateway/eMachines have better touchpads.

Come in starting crap, you're gonna get flamed.

I'll stick with Windows 98, Still runs great, Boots up very fast!

Serious, or are you leg pulling?

I have one Win 98 machine here that still works fine, but I unplug my entire network before allowing it Internet access.

As Microsoft no longer provides updates, the Win 98 operating system is riddled with vulnerabilities. If you network it with other computers, there is a very high probability that the Win 98 machine harbors problems that will find their way into those other machines.

Wow that's awesome! I wonder if it has to do with Snow Leopard also being $30? For just $30 each it's very tempting to buy them both.
