Oh...i got cha Troy! DJ needs Classe or any best amp he can afford. Real High Current with High Gain (high voltage gains). Parasound JC1 or Big Classe or Big Bad BAT with BatPacs.

Carver 9T, 7T, TFM-75, LightStar would do it for the cheap too. Forget TFM-55 (55X) and M1.5T since they don't like low load Z.

There is always Levinson and Krell too.
Trying out Different Audio Cables is a Religious Affair. You don't discuss it with anyone.:biggrin:

Steve, do some searches, many have gone with active crossovers to get the power sucking passive crossovers out of the path. Could save you some bucks.
    Dodd - Battery Preamp
Monarchy Audio SE100 Delux - mono power amps
    Sony DVP-NS999ES - SACD player
    ADS 1230 - Polk SDA 2B
DIY Stereo Subwoofer towers w/(4) 12 drivers each
    Crown K1 - Subwoofer amp
    Outlaw ICBM - crossover
    Beringher BFD - sub eq

Where is the remote? Where is the $%#$% remote!

There is an individual that has a 5.1 or 7.1 HT rig, with a PAIR of Amazing Plat's at every station. In other words, the center channel is a PAIR of Plats. The right rear speaker is a PAIR of Plats.

    You mean like that?

Great I was worried about reliability of the daily use of them, in such a setup. Since they can be on 12hrs a day either in 2 channel or HT mode.

    DJ,

    No, you can't biamp them.....

    BDT

hehehehe, yes its was kinda mean of us not to mention this early on, but then there was a bit of entertainment value in it.....although.....there are certain amplifiers that can be daisy-chained so since its two amps per speaker it would be a form of bi-amping.

DJ--use them as much as you can, afterall, thats why you bought them, guys who post up that they have had something for two years and put 50 hours on it crack me up. I always use my gear as much as I can. Looks like your hooked on ribbons, can't say I blame you.

Yes, as a matter of fact. Here's a post by him that explains some things....

I have 2 systems. They are in 2 different rooms.
My esoteric system in the smaller room consists of:::::
:::: one pair of Carver Platinum Mark 4's:::::::::
:::::powered by a TFM-75 dual mono Amp:::::
:::::I am using the processor from Pioneer Receiver ELITE.:::
::::I am only using the preamp outputs::VSX-74TXVi :::

2nd system. The theater room is huge. I am sure everyone has heard of the
stones in a circle. STONEHENGE. My system is called SOUNDHENGE.
Imagine 14 carver Platinum Mk4 speakers in a circle. They almost touch each other. A small opening in the rear allows me into the theater. It is a 7.1 setup. Every speaker is powered by its own Carver Silver 9t mono block. I'll do the math for ya,,,, it is 14 mono block amps....
Ya gotta love it. Every point in the circle is a pair of carver spkrs.
I also have 2 ea M&K 5000 THX self powered with its own 400 watt amp in each. I have 2 different ways to run the bass in this system. ONE:
is to run the full range signal to all of the speakers with the subwoofer signal shut off. Now with 56ea 12" woofers running, I should have no bass issues to deal with to a point.
NOW the 2nd way of running it is to have the 2 subs with their 2 heavy duty 12 " drivers running the lowest bass signals which in turn takes some stress and strain off of 56 12" drivers. The bass sounds great without the subs, but since the woofers are on the planer panel, they just don't have that kick you in the chest bass that a Voice of the Theater , by electrovoice,, and high end subs give you. On the other hand, my 2 M&K subs excell at the lowest of bass notes, but they don't cover the upper bass to lower midrange that the woofers on the panels do,.. Sooo,
by having the lowest of bass notes away from the main speakers, they don't have to work as hard when something blows up in a dvd movie.
So they are less stressed and the quality of the bass is awsome.
My system is not totally complete yet. I need 2 more sets of speakers,,, that's all. My video display at the moment is a 200 pound 32 ' sony xbr2
tv. DLP from texas instruments will be my next video purchase.
Now getting back to the circle of doom I have created. It is like a room within a room. with the speakers set up like this the amps and speakers don't have to be driven as hard to obtain the same decibel reading. The neato thing here is that the rear sound energy does not bounce off a wall 4 feet behind the speaker and re enter to be mixed with the near same sound wave in the front. That is a compromise. The sound wave normally radiates evenly from the front and back in a true dipole propagating radiator. You are better off loosing most of the rear wave and adding more speakers for more front wave addition. Bob Carver know of this problem. He knows that the ribbon transducer radiating off the back is not guaranteed to have a perfect wall setup behind the speakers. a true audio room with nothing else in it is rare. So he tried to cut down the rear sound wave reflection by appying a long strip of foam over the rear of the ribbon.. on an AL3, the panel is very small. It can't block very much of the rear wave returning to join the front than can the smaller SILVER platinum speakers or the full size platinum. There you have a larger panel to help block some of the rear ribbon energy. This works best. NOW:::::: the ultimate way to set up a carver platinum mk4, for example, is to have a concrete wall and 2 holes in it for the speakers to be placed against. This is the best way to go. All of the secondary rear sound goes out the opening , never to return. Again, the best way is to have the rear opening facing outside directly. Now you have the best sounds from the carver speaker that you can imagine. Makes cents so far, right?
OK this is what i am trying to do by making a circular wall of speakers.
This really works best with the larger carver panel speakers because of the large panel. The area outside of the circle still has over 12 feet to the wall. the rear area outside of the circle is huge. 10 foot ceilings really help.I personally believe that this continuous circle has never been done like this with these speakers.. There is a top notch buddy of mine in LA who is technically over my head. he tried this but with 1/2 the speakers. He never obtained the constant wall effect like I am doing. But I have
acoustics and sound propagation down. I got most of my knowledge for attending Eastern Washington University , just outside of Spokane Wa.
RTV was my major. TV production, audio recording and mixdown , along with room acoustics training. I worked in a couple of nice studios and designed and built a couple of recording studios.
Anyway, I am 2 sets of speakers away from finishing my dream setup. There is nothing like it. You can blow 6 figure $$$$ and get a bunch of high tech bix speaker setups, but nothing sounds like a ribbon. ribbons generally dont individually put out the instantaniouse midrange punch that theatre sounds demand, so ya just add more ribbons untill things even out. Now, nothing has to run on the ragged edge of destruction.
    Lets see,,,where was I.................................
    ferrari

He has since evolved his rig into something a little different but this should give you an idea of what it started out as.
~ In search of accurate reproduction of music. Real sound is my reference and while perfection may not be attainable? If I chase it, I might just catch excellence. ~
