I just bought my first sacd and I was quite impressed with it. I love instrumentals and the detail involved so I bought Erich Kunzel's Great Film Fantasies and I loved every minute of it.

My first Impressions where " I basically fell out of my chair". I could not believe how much better SACD sounded. I lusted after a musical system and a good player. I was in heaven when I finally got my own. I believe is was 2002.
I will add Norah Jones to the list of Must have SACD's. her voice reaches out and touches you in a very personal way............ Did I say that out loud?Dan
My personal quest is to save to world of bad audio, one thread at a time. -
If you like classical music try some of the delicious-sounding SACDs from RCA Living Stereo. I recommend "Pictures at an Exhibition" and Saint Saens 3rd Symphony (organ). They are 3-channel stereo with left right and center channels from original master tapes from the mid 1950s to early 1960s and they sound amazing!

Roger Waters - In The Flesh Live
My impressions were astonishment because I was hearing things I had not heard on the CD version before.
REGARDS SNOWWell, I just pulled off the impossible by doing a double-blind comparison all by myself, purely by virtue of the fact that I completely and stupidly forgot what I did last. I guess that getting old does have its advantages after all -
Nickel Creek - self-titled. I'm so used to the redbook version of this one that I didn't expect to hear much of a difference... but wow. Brilliantly well recorded 2-channel mix, and a surprisingly subtle and full multichannel version that I've actually come to prefer. Definitely worth hearing.Equipment list:
Onkyo TX-NR3010 9.2 AVR
Emotiva XPA-3 amp
Polk RTi70 mains, CSi40 center, RTi38 surrounds, RTi28 rears and heights

Peter Gabriel - Up (2003)
Blown away by the isolated vocal in the center (a novelty at the time) and the overall density of each track, so much going on all around. I have found this disk uses the rear channels a little more than most multi channel SACDs. So much in fact, I found it a little distracting. I now listen to the stereo layer most of the time.Mains - Vienna Acoustics Mozart Grand

Direct to DSD recording produced by Alison Krauss, if I remember correctly.
For me, it was the opening drum beat of "Don't You Forget About Me" from "The Best of Simple Minds" 2 SACD set. Shockingly real! -

Damm, you know I really cannot remember. But the digital library has over 150 of them now, seems they certainly do it for me, lets see a sleeper.........Meatloaf--I Couldn't of Done it Better Myself.......was not expecting much from this one after BOH, but the Meat and his crew never sounded better, great dynamics, clarity and spatial presentation of the instruments. Hot little chickie with her skirt blowing up on the cover of the liner notes doesn't hurt either.

Interesting...one guys "favorite" is another's "underwhelmed"....Elton Johns' Goodbye Yellow Brickroad.
I don't own any YET, but I can tell you what I AM BUYING first is David Gilmor, Live at Dnask...I have been listening to the CD, and it is awesome...I can't wait to hear it in SACD.:) -
The Dave Brubeck Quartet....Take Five
Not a hybrid. It was mastered from the mix-down tape. Only plays on an SACD player.
The drums are in the room with you....... -

Viagra in a chassis.;) -
the better the gear/system the more SACD shines and begins to reach its potential, a great player is the Ayre, quite costly, another winner is the Esoteric models along with the Wadia, at lower cost and of course a sacrifice to sound quality are Denon, Pioneer, Onkyo and Cambridge, Sony has some nice ES players for SACD.
I have all of the EJ and the discs are well recorded with great sound, GBYBR is outstanding along with Tumbleweed connection. The Alison Krause SACD's are all excellent, now OOP they cost quite a bit, but no more than a couple tanks of gas for my truck, the gas is gone in a few weeks, but the disc's last a very long time. Still in print is the Stevie Ray and Albert King disc In Session, nice stuff on this one. I picked up BS&T 3, great dynamics, lots musical emotion, excellent vocals, another winner.

Anybody here have a David Elias--The Window, I would pay big bucks for this SACD.

For me, it had to be Chris Botti, Night Session SACD 5.1, per recommendation from FrankZ (ol' timer who has since moving on...)I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

I got into SACD sort of backwards because I'm a guitarist, and thought that getting a 5.1 mix of Jeff Beck's "Blow by Blow" might allow me to cut out the guitar and then pretend that I was playing along with Jeff's band. Of course I couldn't do that because the guitar is not restricted to a single channel. But it was a happy accident because now I am falling in love with music all over again because of SACDs.
My favorite of all time is Alison Krauss and Union Station Live (Amazon). I'm in love with Janine Jansen's "Four Seasons", which is a wonderful adaption to a small group, much more interesting than a symphonic performance. I particularly enjoy mixes which restrict the lead vocals to the center channel, including Goodbye Yellow Brick Road and Tapestry. Love Al Dimeola's releases, and Satriani is good. Dark Side of the Moon is a must have just to demonstrate the technology to visitors. -

I am not much into SACD but the "Spanish Harlem" track by Rebecca Pidgeon is stunning. Yes, stunning is a word. I bought the CD just for that track and it well worth the money.
