Help me keep my RTA11TL's

mjcmt ... NICE!
I will be following to see how skrol makes out. My area is currently in modern Toddler Disaster style and I am trying to squeeze in an RT5000p set up for HT and rebuilding some SDA 2Bs for 2 channel. My wife thinks the current RT8s are plenty large
...and no kidding she prefers the current black to the rosewood finish of the RTs...hmmm... -
The topic of getting rid of the towers seems to have gone dormant for now, fortunately. I did offer my wife a solution that someone else here suggested. That is to build the bookshelves around the speakers. She was not completely sold on the idea but didn't reject it either.Stan

here is another suggestion - rather then adding the bookcase to the focal point of the room - you could build two bookcases that face each other. This won't work if these shelves are to be used for display - but if they are books and dvds and what not - placing the shelves this way will allow everything to be stored where you need it without having to detract from your beautiful fireplace. Alot of older houses that emplyed casework as an extension of the mantle put doors to maintain the nice view.
Good Luck

Thanks for the suggestion. Part of the idea is that the shelves would be for display. Perhaps they could be made along the side wall and part of the back wall.Stan

Triangular Corner Units?
Those could be a real nice feature. -
Lol. They had that same chair at goodwill the other day; I wanted to get it because it looked like the perfect listening chair. It was a bit beat up, but felt super comfy
EDIT: (the one in the foreground of your picture) -
My wife has been wanting custom book shelves in the family room. Unfortunately, the RTA's will need to go in order to make room. Last night, in a weak moment, I set up my Monitor 5A's in the family room. My wife is overjoyed and asked, "What are you going to do with the big speakers, sell them?"....:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:( They will sit in storage in the basement first, as I doubt that I'll ever obtain a better speaker. Not to say that there are none better out there; it is just that I likely will not be buying them.
I am sorry but Monitor 5A's, even with the Peerless tweeters, do not sonically replace the RTA11TL's. While the 5A's are silky on the top end, they really lack low end and don't fill the family room and adjoining kitchen with music the way the RTA's do.
Solutions:
1) I could build around the RTA11TL but the SQ would greatly suffer
2) I could build a man cave system in the basement but I am not likely to enjoy them much and the kids play rough down there.
3) I could store them until who knows when and dream of how they once played
4) I could beg my wife to let me keep them in the family room.
5) I could...sniff..sniff...sell them for 3x what they are worth.

Sell the wife and kids and keep the RTAs. Put them up on Craigs List or ebay. Problem solved.Statistics show that 98% of us will die at some point in our lifetime.
The other 2% will work for WalMart. -
Hey man...grow some cajones! Wife doesn't like the 11s? Hey, YOU like your 11s right. And she must enjoy their SOUND now and then!
One has to draw the line at some point...I have a ton of speakers lying around. When I bought my SDA-2Bs my wife said "what do we need those for? They're too big!"
My response Don't worry I'll take care of this! Put them up in my home office...and still have Monster JBLs in the house and M70s in the HT room? A Denon, an Onkyo 805, an Adcom 555, an old Kenwood integrated..an old pair of KLH Model Six's--we could go on. But some guys stuff here dwarfs my list above...and they have wives too!
If I let my wife decide my audio choices I'd be listening to a Bose Wave Radio!
