Hi,
I purchased the PSW303 over a 1.5 year ago from Futureshop in Toronto (Canada) to go with a small audio/video system in the bedroom. Over all I'm pretty happy with the sound for a sub of that small size. But last couple of weeks the sub acts kind of weird.
Some back ground info:
- Sub is always plugged in directly to an outlet in the wall by itself - in a corner couple of meters away from the receiver (I used this outlet for the sub since day 1).
- Sub is always on stand-by mode (auto power on)
- Sub is connected via the sub output of the receiver to LFE input of the sub.
Problems:
1) When plug in the power (wall socket) - the sub give out static and boom, boom, boom sound for a couple of seconds before it quiet down.
2) When the room is quiet, once in a while I would hear very very low humbling noises caming from the sub.
3) Big problem - when not using the audio/video system (all equipment is off) the sub once in a while gives out loud rumbling noises that sometimes woke me up in the middle of the night. The only way to stop it is pull the power plug out. Kind of annoying because I need to plug in the power to the sub each time I use the system. Turn the power switch of the sub to OFF position does not help the problem. I also try plug the sub in diffrent power outlet, and also disconnect the LFE from the receiver to the sub (no audio signal) but the the sub still making funny noises by itself.
Is this possible the sub is defective and or how can I fix these problem.
Thank you.
Phil

Phil,
I used to have a PSW303 in my setup and it never did any of the things you mentioned.
Sounds like it is defective - you should contact Polk Customer Service for advice on how to proceed and get it repaired.
Sorry to hear about your troubles....:(

Hello,
In all likelihood there is a problem with the bass amplifier. It would be best to either telephone us at 1-800-377-7655 and we can help. Or, send us an email at polkcs@polkaudio.com for help also.

Hello,
I noticed you are a Canadian resident, with that in mind, you would want to telephone our Canadian manager, Walter Moser, at 1-519-853-8244. I'm sure he can be of help.
Regards, Ken -
Yes Phil, don't tamper with the subwoofer as it is still on warranty. While 1.5 years isn't old, it seems like there might be some capacitor(s) at fault in the power supply (LFE disconnected and tried different outlets has to some of the sort).
Cheers!

Update,
I emailed support about this and Walter Moser direct me to Morgan Technology located in Mississauga (border of Toronto - which is around 25-30 minutes drive from my home) to get it fix quick. I'm probably drive there and drop off the sub sometimes next week.
Thank you to all you guys for the help and suggestion.

Hi Phil, I would like to know how did you solve your problem. I had the same problem as you (and I thought is normal), but now, my sub is dead (doesn't work). What was the feedback from your problem ? It will help me with my problem, maybe in how to fix. I'm in Brazil and there is no official polk authorized ThanksPhil_12345 wrote: »Update,

Hi,
Update of update :-)
From my original post I haven't has a chance to get the sub fix due to new job; buying/moving/fixing my new house in the last 1/2 year. Beside, the sub is for the secondary system in the bedroom so I didn't even use it that often.
Any way, I plug the sub in yesterday and it blew a fuse and continuously blew few more new fuses within few seconds of power. The sub is still under 3 years warranty so I guess I must get it fix this time.
