Spirit Sound has closed their Boston store! As far as I know this is the last of the audio stores in Boston that I could get to by public transportation to listen to speakers or gear.

I don't mind buying electronics without hearing them, but I have a big problem of getting speakers without hearing them.

This sucks!

Say it ain't so!!!!!!!!!!! That was the one I could get to via a short cab ride from our Boston office. I've bought several things there and always dealt with Ralph, and had a positive experience every time. This really sucks!

Not just high end audio, its hard to find upper end gear of any enthusiast persuasion these days. Times are a changing.

The internet is just making it unprofitable to carry high end gear anymore. Take computers for instance. I was recently looking for a video card for my rig. All the cards that Best Buy, Computers Plus and Staples had for $100-150, I could buy off Newegg.com for $50-75 brand spanking new and fully authorized from the manufacturer. Its the same way with car audio and its probably the same for diving, fishing, knitting, badminton, you name it. You can find plenty of entry level stuff but actual brick and mortar stores for high end stuff is a thing of the past Im afraid - at least until they figure out a way to offer internet prices in these stores.

Although this must certainly be a sorry blow for you Bostonites, it probably won't change much for the rest of us that follow Spearit Sound regularly (like I do, for NAD):
The rumors are true—Our Boston store is no longer, but we are not saying goodbye!

Our Boston store has been a resource to audio enthusiasts for 21 years but it is time to move forward. Custom installation has become the bulk of what we do in Boston and this simply does not require a five thousand square foot retail space on Commonwealth Avenue.

Our Northampton store is going strong with in-store sales and our Internet business is growing to a degree that, well, astounds us. Northampton will be the continuing home to the fabulous inventory for which Spearit Sound is known. Spearit Sound plans to be here for many years to come and we remain ready to serve your high performance audio needs. We are committed to providing solid deals on the very best audio components available.

To our Boston area customers that have not visited Northampton: We are about one hour and forty minutes from our Boston store and are right off Interstate 91. If you don’t mind a longer drive, set your GPS for a scenic route and enjoy the beauty of central and western Massachusetts along the way. We even have a parking lot, with free parking. Too busy to visit, call us or email. We are happy to ship directly to your home or office. Any questions? Please give us a call or send us an email.
To the bargain hunters out there: We’re going to be adding a lot of great deals on our Specials page over the next few months. There are a lot of duplicate demos to sell as well as some remarkable one of a kind items. Watch this space...

Also, for me, this is of special interest:
... Spearit Sound is proud to announce the addition of Focal to our fine selection of speakers. ...

A good online source for Focal JM Lab will be a wonderful thing to have!
