XBOX360 RROD Repair

Hi guys,
I Have a MS Refurb that failed due to RROD (could be 2nd generation, I could recheck build date, if that matters). While I am usually pretty handy in fixing broken stuff, I'd rather have someone who has a bit more tracked record in successfully revive it (and still stay alive after prolong usage). Anybody interested in doing this for a fee? what's the going rate to do this? any recommendation of a repair shop, if not?
TIA

I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

Well I have a friend that does it, it will be 40 dollars plus shipping back and forth. I have three boxes sitting here that I need to ship to him, plus one that needs a new laser. He does the X-Clamp, plus re-pastes. He has told me that he has boxes running for 8 months with no issues at all.
You can also go here.....http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showforum=29
I have used services here also with no issues. -
thanks Sean. Is Dustin (dustin@xbox-tuner.com) your buddy or somebody else? I am a bit confused with your reply. From your link, it appears that he lives in OHIO and he is charging $50 for RROD?

I know that nguyendot has done a few XBox RROD fixes on his machines, may be worth a PM to see what he could do for a fellow Polkie.

No he is not my friend. If you would like to contact my friend PM me and let me know and I will give you his email.
I just put that link up because those are the national repair list through xbox-scene. I cannot remember who I had used, it has been a long time. -
It's all the time, it's everytime I turn around. It's something I want to smash with a hammer. I hate the Xbox 360 for this very reason. I'm on my 4th unit. How the hell do they have such a high failure rate year after year. 1st they should have figured out the heat problem and corrected it.
If it breaks again, it's out.Dan

Ive got 2 PS3's(one for me and one for the kid), never had a problem with either. I still have a PS2 that works well, but I did have a couple of those that had problems. Sony has done a remarkable job with the PS3, and they just lowered the price to $299! You will pay atleast half that much for just a BlueRay player. Most of them only hear how loud it sounds, and the rest of us hear everything else -

Well, it happened today. Just bought bioshock since I loved the demo so much and when the game was loading it froze. Restarted the xbox and there it was, the RROD... ****!
Anyways, I have a question for you guys. I bought it refurb about a year ago and know its under different warranty then the new ones but don't have reciept for it. I just got the shipping label printed and ready to be sent and apparently for no fee since RROD is three year warranty. But since mine is refurb, will they charge me when they get it or does it not matter...It didn't say anything about a difference in warranty between the two so I don't knowAVR: H/K AVR240

Add me to the list of VERY satisfied PS3 owners. One of, if not the best additions I have made to my HT since I started it almost 4 years ago.

Its not that I'm not satisfied with the 360. I probably played more in the year I've had it then the 4 years I had ps2. I'm just not a PS fan and its games.
Anyways, shipping it in today, We'll see what happens.AVR: H/K AVR240

Well how bout a Polkie chiming in
I Own all three, Xbox 360/PS3/Wii.
First I will mention my ps3, excellent system, great bluray player and media center, but FPS games are terrible on that tiny ps3 controller.
Xbox360 - Best gaming system in terms of layout and title selection, however... they have been so prone to problems. I sent my box to microsoft about 9 months after i bought it (component box, not hdmi) for RROD, they "fixed" it, well about a month ago my screen starts locking up, no RROD though... hmmm so microsoft wont warranty it.. well I felt ambitous and pulled that puppy apart. I yanked out those x-clamps and replaced with washers and bolts. cleaned an re applied HS compound. console has worked flawlessly -
^^^^ What he said!
BTW thanks for chiming in. It all has to do with heat issues and that freaking board basically "warping" and not making proper contact. -
Indeed, The issue With the Xclamp is most likely the metal allow they used to create them. It should have been rated to resist expansion/contraction up to a certain tempurature.. Apparently that is not the case.
Fyi - I also added a cheap 12vlt micro fan to the case, just above the GPU heatsync, as well as perforated the top of the case to allow air to come in, I did a temp check of the air coming out of the back fans (exhaust fans) and tempurature droped by 4 degrees, doesnt sound like much but to an already swealtering proccessor it makes a big differance. -
LOL just get a Nintendo Wii and make sure you wear the straps or you will need to by a TV also.
-
Just replace the xclamp with bolts and washers. Worked fine for me.Main Surround -

just replace it
LOL, good advice Lee. Pretty sure not everybody has a couple hundred dollars laying around, when a few bucks and a couple hours could get the job done. Just my $.02
