Can we say static electricity? I knew you could.......
Just thought I would pass this along, my business partner was laying on the couch the other night all wrapped up in a blanket. He decided to head to bed and pulled the blanket off went over to shut his receiver off and got a heck of a static elelctricity shock when he touched the power button. He was in his stocking feet too and probably "shuffled" over too the receiver. Well as you might guess he didn't have too shut the power button off as the static electricity did that for him. And now of course the thing won't power back up at all. That stuff is nasty.....

The winter is brutal for static.I hate it.I keep a bottle of static guard on hand all winter long.I don't like to touch my gear over and above that,to keep the fingerprints OFF.
I have a Pronto and I rarely ever turn on or off anything manually.Dan
My personal quest is to save to world of bad audio, one thread at a time. -
If you have a forced air heating system you need to install a whole house humidifier. The average relative humidity level in a home with forced air heat is 13 to 16% during the winter. By adding a humidifier you can increase the relative humidity which will greatly reduce static potential! Most people are comfortable with a Rel. Hum. of 30-35%. Not only do they decrease the static potentail but they also help preserve wood floors and furniture, and help prevent dry skin problems. Take a look at WWW.Aprilaire.com for more info.

I only touch my stuff if it's broken or I have to set radio presets, which is only about every 2 years when a good new station comes on or an existing station turns evil (e.g. WNNK 104.1 in PA. If you live here you probably know about the whole Bruce Bond fiasco)
