Nice!! Congrats man. I've heard that the 750/5802 is a stellar combination. What are you going to be using as a source with it?

The Adcom GCD-750 cd player would complete the Combo.:)

That's supposed to be a very solid CDP, and match very well with the 750/5802.

I really like the fact that you can use it as a DAC for another digital source. Very cool feature. HDCD decoding is a big plus too. It's only drawback is lack of SACD playback.

Congrats on the 750, nice improvement over my Denon AVR. May expose some issues but once you sort through them you will be impressed. For me it was my TT, too bright. Changed out cables and could not be happier.

I wonder how the $500 750 cdp compares to others in its class. I thinking about this cdp as well but wonder how the Jolida 100 or the Rotel 1072 would sound with my Adcom setup. You don't hear to much about the GCD-750.

I'm sure it would probably excel beyond the Jolida and Rotel. Remember the 750 cdp was a $1500 player and has the same digital and analog section as the GDA700 dac and that is a superb sounding dac.

When I finally added the GFP-750 preamp to my system it was a very "educational" experience. For the record, some of the previous pre-amps I have used include... a Yamaha (who's model I don't remember), Carver CT-Seven, Adcom GFP-555, Adcom GTP-500II, and a PS Audio 5.6. The PS Audio is definitely the best of that bunch (and is still used in my home office system), but the GFP-750 simply blew it away. The word that best describes it is "transparent". Compared to the GFP-750 all of the others obviously "colored" the sound. The GFP-750 simply disappeared.

The GFP-750 can be used actively or as a passive pre-amp (as can the PS Audio 5.6). I preferred the active mode as it better supported the dynamics of the music, solidifying the impact of transients without changing the tonal balance or coloring the sound.

I guess this should be no big surprise. Stereophile found the GFP-750 to be an outstanding preamp, giving it a Class A recommendation. And on the used equipment market it still can command as much as $900 ($750-800 being more typical). I can only agree with all of the positive things that have already been said about this preamp.

I had the GFP-750/GFA-5802/GCD-750 combination in my two channel rig for a few years and also had a second GFP-750 in another system. I sold the pre and power amps when I upgraded but kept the GCD-750 as a backup CD player and to use when breaking in cables.

The GCD-750 is a great player, but it's dim, cheap looking amber colored LED display discouraged many from buying it. Adcom said they chose that particular display, which is unreadable from a few feet away, because it was a very low noise design. Vacuum florescent displays do introduce noise, but a lot of CD players that use them have an option for dimming and/or turning off the display. I sent an email to Adcom asking why they didn't just use a dimmable/switchable display, but they never answered.

I like my GCD-750, but I am not as enthusiastic about it as I am the GFP-750 and GFA-5802. Perhaps this is because I have a PS Audio Ultralink Two to compare it to. The Ultralink Two was a Stereophile Class B component as recently as 1998 (IIRC) and retailed for around $2200, so it is certainly an able competitor. The GCD-750 is definitely preferred for HDCD encoded material, but for straight redbook playback, it is a close call. The PS Audio is a bit warmer sounding, while the Adcom may possess a bit more detailed top-end... but I won't commit to that. I do prefer the GCD-750 when it is connected via its balanced outputs instead of unbalanced, but I have not compared it to the Ultralink Two when both are connected via XLR. I also have a Marantz DV7001 DVD/SACD player, and the GCD-750 definitely outperforms it for CD playback. I guess the very fact that the GCD-750 isn't blown away by the Ultralink Two is testament enough that it is a very solid player. I am just not ready to heap the same praise on it that I have for the other two Adcom pieces from this series.

Larry (OP), the GFA-5802/GFP-750/GCD-750 is an awesome combo. ;)

Well I have the GFA-5802 hooked up, and it sounds Fantastic!!

The only thing i notice is I do get a little bit more buzzing sound from my speakers then I did from the 585. it don't really get any louder when I turn the volume up, is this normal from this amp?

It don't seem to be affecting the sound quality when a CD is playing.

On another note I like that my music sounds a little warmer, and the clarity and dynamics is cleaner with the bass being much tighter. also I noticed the imagery with the SDA's is more pronounced from side to side as well as across the room.

I will be able to play with this setup for a few days till I get the GFP-750 this week.

I am very glad the XPA-2 did not work out for me as this amp out the gate blows the XPA-2 out of the water period.

Now can someone help me with the slight buzzing sound?

    Thanks,

    Larry.

Wait until you get the 750 pre. Perhaps your AVR as a pre is causing some issue.

Ah, missed that. Going to have to hunt it down. Might be a ground loop thing. Try different outlets. Make sure no cable boxes are plugged into the pre. I have a very very minor ground hum as well which gets worse when I have the analog outs of my cable box plugged into my pre. A power conditioner/filter has helped but I can still hear an ever so slight hum if it's quiet and put my ear to the speaker.

This is a two channel setup only, Music only. I have it plugged into the same outlet I had the 585 plugged into. I can hear the sound 12 to 15 inches away.

I have my eye on a power conditioner, I want a Panamax or APC.

    Thanks H9,

    Yep.

just for grins you might try one of those 3 to 2 prong adapters, I have had buzzing coming from the third prong on one of my subs.
