Hello All,

I need to get a Blackberry and know nothing about them. Any suggestions/wisdom/warnings please?

Thanks in advance.

    What provider?

If it's Verizon....wait for the Niagara....otherwise the Curve has been my favorite. I'm sure they'll dress up the same phone and call it some other super lame name depending on who you choose.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

I had the curve for a year and a half and it was the best smart phone I've owned. Now I have the Storm and 80% of the time I really like it and 20% of the time I want to throw it out of the window. As long as you take the battery out and put it back in every morning, lockups are minimized and it is nice to have a bigger screen than the curve with touch screen features. I can type just about as fast on the touch screen as I could on the curve now also.

But if you want rock solid reliability and aren't too concerned about a bigger screen, go with the curve, tour, or wait for the new niagra.

I have a Pearl and it took a little getting used to but I like it.

I also have an 8830 for work and that thing is a gigantic brick. I'm amazed by it because my Pearl is 1/3rd the size and does everything the 8830 does except for WiFi. But I can't complain about Sprint's data service for the Pearl so I don't really miss the WiFi.

But then again asking what Blackberry is the best is like asking what Ferrari is the best.

Great. Then I should get some pretty good feedback. I'm starting a new job and I'm going to be traveling ALOT both here and abroad so I need a robust product.

I'm with Verizon, is there a better choice for use abroad?

    Thanks.

Where are you traveling? I've had excellent service with Verizon in China, Taiwan, Germany and Switzerland. Data service was faster in China than Chicago.

Europe, Central and South America. Sounds like Verizon is it. I've been with them for 8 pleasant years....

The Tour(RIM 9630) is available from both Sprint and VZW. I believe they renamed it and the Niagara name has been dropped. The features appear to be what I was told about previously....so check that out.

Verizon is CDMA not GSM so make sure you are getting the right one if you buy outside from a Verizon store.

I have the 8100 and have never had issues with it. My wife has 8220 pearl flip and the phone freezes and reboots often, both are on a GSM network up here.

Everyone in my company was forced to get a storm when we switched carriers a few month ago. People have been so disappointed with them (the storm) so far that they offered to switch those people over to the new tour. I was told that 95% of the people are opting out of the storm. I am keeping mine because I like the bigger screen and the texture of the track ball on the tour freaks me out. The firmware upgrade on the storm has resolved 99% of the problems for me. It has not hung since the upgrade.

Could you maybe expand on that a little? I think the Bold seems huge compared to the other blackberrys, so I never gave it a second look.

Sure Lowell_M. The Bold really isn't a whole lot different size wise than the Storm, but from every other aspect in comparing the two phones, the Bold just has all of the bases covered.

That being said, my concern for you would be how much of a money outlay you could potentially be out. BOLD = A.T.&T., so if you prefer Verizon things could get a "little ugly" if you follow me ?

Great... now I feel like less of a man... Like I needed to feel less manly....thanks

Must try to make up for it... I downloaded an app that uses the accellerometers in the Storm as a level? Another app for $13 that uses the accellerometers to give you g loads in a car and calculates 0-60 and 1/14 mile times.

....I fat finger the the letters all the time. Getting better though and can almost type as fast as I did on the curve.

I'm not a fan of the storm either. I mean, minus all the bad reviews, i guess its kind of cool. but its too big/heavy for me and I'm not a huge fan of touchscreen phones.
