inwall speakers
I was wonder if anyone has inwall speakers as rear surrounds, I went at AVI electronics and they had 3 Paradigm speakers in a 6.1 setup running all the back wall, with all parasound gear and they sounded amazing, clear not to bright and just surrounded you with sound. Question will the top of the line Polk Inwalls give me the same sound in a need for space issue in the HT setup: Yamaha 1300, RT600i's in front with CS400i center and PSW450. I have rt25i in the rear now but want to move to bedroom for small 2nd HT rig, any and all suggestions will be appreciated. I would like to hear from mantis since he does alot of custom in-stalls. I was lookking at the RC85I's for possible use. Thanks

With your systyem I would look into the 65 series.Inceiling are also a good choice.Inwalls are a great way to add theater into living space.........reason ,they take up NO floor space and sound really good.Careful placement and correct mounting/filling the cell will all yield advantages.Dan

I've been checking out the in walls lately. I've listened to the paradigms and the polks. Unfortunately, I auditioned on separate weekends. But my take is this, the high end paradigms sound better than the polks rc85's. Then again, they are more expensive. The paradigms do not have an aimable tweeter. This may or may not be an issue for you. I am looking for a ceiling mount location, so an aimable tweeter is a desirable feature for me. I also listened to the rc80's. Even though the 80 has the same driver setup as the 85, the 85's sounded better. The polks also may not have been installed ideally. This was at a store called Fry's in Dallas and they had all the speakers mounted on a a big rectangular box with no insulation behind the speakers. The ideal in wall solution should have some insulation behind the speakers. The paradigms were in another high end store and I assume they were installed correctly. If you're looking for the highest fidelity, I'd go with the paradigms. If you need fleibility (i.e. aimable tweeter) go polk. They sounded fine.

wallstreet has a point but,
Miss matching speakers are not Ideal. If your going to use Paradigm rears, then my friend you should have matching fronts as well.Dan

Thanks guys for your quick responses, I called around and found a HT Store which has some 85I installed in a room with other types of in-walls, paradigm included, I don't want to mis-match my speakers and I love my polks, so I will get my listen on and get back to you.:)

Unless you're running in-walls for your fronts, you mismatch will be significant anyways. The sound quality coming from in walls will never come close to floor standing fronts. I had matched in walls at my last house and they could never keep up.

All right here goes. I went to AVI and before I went I called to see if i could bring my fronts for demo and they said fine. I got to the store with my gear and store had same reciever but different sub, proceeded to set up system, calibrated speakers and began test. I can see where going to a HI-FI store is worlds apart from CC or BB, what a great experience. Sound was great and setup was fantastic, got some really good people their and service was first rate, decided on purchasing the inwalls and mounting insulation kits for the 6.1 setup. As far as keeping up or mis-matching the speakers I did not experience that and with the guys coming over to install them hope this doesn't happen. I feel i made a good decision and will see what happens, again thank you all for your responses all taken into consideration in making my decision. By the way I purchased the 65I as it seemed to be the best match for the system. Will post pictures and reviews of sound as soon as they are installed next Tuesday.
