Cal, I'm totally looking into that. No way in hell I'm fixing my RTi70 and having it happen again!

(Thank God he didn't choose my SVS sub instead though. Just saying.)

i think walmart may have it (different brand) for cheaper price but if you want it last longer. i suggest go to babies rus

    GOOD LUCK

Here's a pic or two of the damage:
    img00272200908201812.jpg
    img00271200908201812.jpg

As you can see, the wood had swollen up almost to the tip of the carpet spikes. I have no clue how I didn't notice it before now.

I got some repellent spray after work to try to break the dog of marking before my replacement base arrives. Not sure if it works on the dog, but the cat can't freakin' stand it!

looks like Polk CS came thru for yah...BUT I would definitely still clear coat both of them, real good. that way it can never happen again... the MDF on the bottom was 'raw" and that is why it could absorb the moisture...any moisture.
    Good luck.....:o

How did you not smell that?

Seriously, you can't smell it unless your nose is right up on it... and looking at it closely, it's really not as yellowed as you'd think dog piss would make it. Makes me wonder if it's dog piss or if the lady who occasionally cleans here was running the steam cleaner right up on that speaker (which I hadn't even considered until I looked at the bottom). That would almost make sense, considering the speaker's location. Plus, the carpet around the speaker doesn't really seem to be stained like you'd expect if the dog was marking it regularly. Look at this pic:
    img00273200908201816.jpg

I'm seriously wondering if that white film on it is from the steam cleaner's detergent, and if the slight smell is just mildewing wood from the moisture. Either way, Polk's CS came through... and I'll definitely be giving the new base a quick clear-coating before it goes on.

So yeah... the dog has apparently been marking it for some time without me noticing, effectively destroying my speaker.

I had the same problem. Turns out it was my son. He lives in the cellar now.

A friend of a friend gave me a Piano--didn't realize it until it was home but he had a cat that made that piano its ****. I guess I can't complain much as it was free-but I do have to spray it (lysol/febreze) from time to time---eventually I'll get around to sealing it (to hopefully seal in any odors).

I used to have cats--and one of them started the marking indoors.--I found this spray at the petstore that the cats really really realy did not like. They curled thier noses up when they got anywhere near it. I forget what its call-not sure if it works for dogs too.

You can use an enzyme called "Nature's Miracle"...available at PetSmart/etc. for about $ 28/gallon or you can get it online for less than $20/gallon plus shipping. It will DESTROY the odor, but you have to soak it pretty good & let it stay on the area.

    ****,
I think you should send an e-mail to Polk Customer service thanking them all for the great work they for Polk customers. You should also share with them the whole story with them. The reason I say this is because they will really appreciate the thanks and get a great kick out of the story. Too many times the people on the front lines like customer service reps are over looked.

When I was a kid, my mom had a Chiwawa really pissed up my father’s EPI speakers. Then we had some cats that did the same including using the speaker covers as scratching posts! I love dogs, but don’t own any because I know what they can do to your stuff. Maybe when I have a big enough house one day with a large backyard I can restrict a dog to the yard and part of the house. I think dogs that are in this habit will never stop because your speakers might as well be a tree. I know I would flip- out if a dog “decorated” my a’9!
As for cats, they are some nasty SOB’s and if they pee once, it’s a wrap!
Off the subject a bit, but I never understand why folks post stuff for sale on CL and have their cat or dog laying on it. To me it is a clear sign that they pet may have chewed, pissed or scratched the item a bit. Not a good look!

If you think the cleaning lady is getting the bases wet when she cleans the carpet, you might try some higher carpet spikes....something high enough to keep the base off the carpet......Just a thought.

    Kudos to Polk's CS.

I'm gonna go with the suggestion of clear-coating the bases. That ought to help.

I thought I was the only one to notice this, when Mike LoManaco used it recently. It does seem rather rude to our fellow club member!
