Spent some time in Peace park and Hiroshima couple months back. The Park and Memorial was very interesting, with allot of facts regarding the bombing of the city and their rebuild of the city since those times. A very nice city today with allot of nice sites to see and hang out. I really like it there, since I travel there allot.

Inside the park memorial they have many artifacts collected from the bombing, however I decided not to post that here. You can see more pics here of the bombing if you like.

Well, that brings back some memories! I visited a few years ago, staying in the Rihga Royal Hotel. Like you said, it's quite a nice city now. I loved the airport, landing up in the hills somewhere: quite unusual.

Fukuoka was another nice city, IMO, and Sapporo on Hokkaido Island, (but very different, obviously). Oddly, perhaps for some, including many Japanese people, I like Takamatsu and Shikoku Island too. Nagoya and Osaka were not very interesting from my point of view, but that never surprised anybody.

On the whole, I really loved Japan and the Japanese in general ... and it's so very safe (even alone at night) that we can't even imagine anything like it here in L.A.! It could be on a different planet from that perspective. Had I been at a different stage in life, I might well have married a Japanese girl I knew as a friend and stayed there permanently, but I wasn't nearly ready for that!

I definitely know what you mean. Very safe, and totally different. I enjoy my time out here. Love the food and the culture is very cool. Definitely worth a visit, and too I agree on your comments in regard to Osaka.

Beautiful city. Nice pics Sherardp. I only stopped in Japan once briefly while on deployment to S. Korea. My wife's Japanese, lived there as a child and has visited many times. One of these days we hope to go visit some of her relatives and spend some time there together.

The humorist Dave Barry in one of his books (I believe it's called Dave Barry Does Japan) describes his visit to Hiroshima in an uncharacteristically moving (and not at all smart-alecky) chapter.

I've been to Japan a couple of times, but not there.
