    Caliguapolk,

Congrats on the new amp. I have been enjoying my Emotiva! You have a nice set-up there. One friendly word of advice though, I wouldn't leave the reciever stacked on top of the XPA-5 like that. As far as amps go, the XPA series runs very cool, but still it would be better to have nothing on top of it so the amp could better breath and keep cool. Also Onkyo recievers run hot, especially the 805. I know hot air rises, but having a hot running reciever sitting on top of the amp can't be an especially good thing IMHO. It looks like you have room to set the reciever to the side of the amp, I would try that instead.

Average weight for adult women = 162.9 pounds

to me that seem high....it's only because i see my wife everyday and that's the size I am comfortable with(average to me)....my sister is same size as my wife....

I don't know exact figures for women who can lift 66 lbs...if that much weight is for XPA-5, it would take at least 2 or 3 people size that's close to my wife....

I would have to guess that more than 1% of the women in the world can lift 66 pounds. I wouldn't want a chick that couldn't lift 66 pounds...because that would mean she'd be small enough to be mistaken for a 12 year old girl.

What happened to the finish on the volume control and door on the Onkyo? Did it arrive scratched up like that?

Jeff if you are going to stack those like that id get some extra risers to add more space between them for better air flow. Not sure how hot those amps get. Looking good. Cant wait to Demo it.

That will work fine, as long as you have 5 of them. Why temporary? No need to change them.

    No she was wise.

Just because you can do something, doesn't mean you should!
She could easily throw out her back lifting that weight.
What if she did hurt herself or dropped the amp?

She was very wise to wait until her husband came home.

My wife will not leave the box outside til i get home

she only lifted the box from door into foyer and let me do the rest lifting.

While the Onkyo receivers apparently run rather hot, Emotiva amplifiers, in general, run extremely cool. Also, Emotiva have frequently stated you actually can stack other components on their amplifiers if you so wish. You can always e-mail them to verify this if you are worried about it, in the case of the XPA-5 specifically, but I would not be. Just a thought, since heat issues were mentioned earlier.

im not stacking it up, only did it for photo shooting and i plan seperate it :D

thanks for warning though... Onkyo will be placed on top of amp on the rack, seperately on shelf. Will show rack setup photo later.

BTW, do you have a 12v trigger wire, so that the Onkyo will automatically turn the Emotiva on and off, or are you intending to just leave it on all the time?

not yet.. i plan go to walmart to buy temporary one until emotiva release their cables soon.. gotta make sure its right one..

Really? Did they say why? I always thought rca cables were fine for rca connections. Or did they think you wre going to try and hook it up digitally?

Looks good so far, If I was you I would get a power conditioner when you can swing it, and get rid of the multi outlet strip you have. or at least upgrade to a better outlet strip for now.

Also have your amp plugged into a dedicated wall outlet if possible.

I don't know what they told you but any RCA interconnect will work. Why do you think so many guys here try all sorts of cables. Emotiva is not doing anything special to only use particular cables.

I don't think that will work-you'd think it would but I was never able to get it to work between my 805 and XPA5 and I recall several discussions on the Emotiva forum of similar experience. I had to use a 12v wall wart-Just plug the wall wart into the accessory outlet on the Onk and the powered side into the XPA-5 trigger in and you'll be golden. Your bound to have at least one unused one laying around somewhere.

I'm sure they can be found much cheaper--I actually picked up a few at the Sharper Image going out of biz sale last year for a buck each. It doesn't have to be high current. I'm pretty sure the 300mA one above would likely work fine. I can't tell what tips the one above has, just ensure it has the correct tip.

They look acceptable because they are. A digital cable is just a 75 ohm coax cable. Many analog cables are also 75 ohm coax. I think something probably just got lost in the conversation he had with emo.

That kinda sux. Is this a problem with the Onkyo, or the Emotiva, or some mysterious compatability issue between the two?

Probably the fact that it is a stereo cable, not mono. They still work sometimes, but not always, due to the way the pin lines up.

I have used mono 3.5mm cables with my 885, and many others for 12v triggers, they have always worked just fine. Something like this:

I tried both stereo and mono, neither worked, I even tried the Zone 2 trigger out, nada--I don't recall checking to see if I was actually getting any voltage out of the Onk's trigger--so it could be a problem with the Onk 805 for all I know--The wall wart did work, so I know the trigger in on the XPA-5 works so I left it at that.

Just FYI, you can control what size the images are when you upload them to Photobucket.

Here's a shot of my XPA-5 hookup. Using Monoprice interconnects. Note one is left hanging unused since they are configured as stereo pairs. I'm pretty sure they are just 75 ohm coax.
    CIMG6237.jpg

Oh and I would say to get rid of the factory provided interconnects-they make work, and you may not hear a difference for obvious reasons, but your wife might (or maybe not--I know my wife could care less) but they likely have no shielding from RF interference, etc.....There has been enough praise for Monoprice cables (for the money) and for $3 each pair-that's $9 for a set-- you simply can't go wrong.

I have used both a stereo and mono 3.5mm cable to operate my Yammi and the Emotiva.....If the Onkyo has a problem I would get the Mono cable just to be sure. According to the Onkyo's manual there should be no compatability problems with the Emotiva..
