Posting this for my brother who can't access the Polk Forums...

but, he has the Pioneer Elite 49TXi and is interested in the LSIs. We have some concerns about whether or not this would be a good match-- most of it stemming from the 4 ohms requirement.

Any insights?

yes i think it should be a good match, the poineer high end receiver haves plenty of power to drive the 4 ohm load of the lsi=line. i would not get any less of a receiver though.
is your brother going to get that system, whats he have now.

    any one wants to add.

    welcome to the forum jesyjames

    Jesse,
I just added an Outlaw amp to my Pioneer Elite receiver. Elite receivers are not rated for output into 4 ohm speakers, so your brother can and should expect the receiver to run hotter than normal. If he is serious about getting the Lsi's then adding an seperate amp that is designed for this type of load would provide better performance and and improved sound quality. Athough the 49TXi is a fantastic piece of equipment, it won't do the Lsi's justice by itself.

    Thanks for the responses.

What if we ran two lsi 15's, the lsi c, and the lsi fx for rears... are we going to have adequate power to make these speakers sing? If we cross them over at 80 for movies... we are just concerned about that 4 ohm load spread out over 5 speakers.

Currently, he is using a set of Energy C9's-- which sound really good-- but with all this buzz about the LSI series we are strongly looking at them.

    Allow me to answer this,
ALLDAY!!!the Pioneer Elite vsx49txi receiver CAN and WILL run Lsi series. This receiver isn't like the older models like FrankZ has. This monster has plenty of power and has the respect of being on of the very best receivers on the market today.

I think this is one hell of a receiver myself.I have ran Lsi's off of it for 2 channel and 5 channels of Lsi.It pushed them with ease.
Features, flexability, performance, built quality, your not going to find much more of a receiver on the market.

The Mcacc is one really usefull tool.It will calibrate the system for you.Follow the onscreen directions and keep it quiet.
The video upconverting is awesome.Since it's release(unlike other brands)the video upconverting works flawlessly.composite/S-video and OSD all out the component video monitor out.Super coll and easy to hook up all video sources.I like it.

    joe joe joe.................joe,
why o why would you add amps to this receiver???Come on man if your going to spend 4 grand on a receiver and then add amps, why wouldn't you just buy a killer preamp instead, and add amps to that???
You can get the mighty B&K ref50 for 3 grand retail.......which is a grand less then the Pioneer. Now you have a grand to apply to amps,B&Ks amps arre in the upwards of slightly expensive, but when your all the way up here, why stop.

If your going to make the kill on the Pioneer Elite,I wouldn't use it as a preamp....It's one killer receiver all by itself.
    My opnion by the way;)

    jesyjames,
Take a look at this thread from AVSForum. The reviewer was using a 49tx, check out post on page 6 where he talks about the 49tx/lsi9 combo.

Well I sat and read all that madness and come to find out those dudes,or dude was clipping out the 49 with the Lsi9's,thats funny I ran the Lsi15's with the 47 and it held for 3 hours.I ran it hard and it didn't skip a beat.
I also tested the Lsi7's and Lsi9's off of it as mains with same results. It was set to large and in direct.
The Pioneer Elite vsx49txi isn't my first choice in receivers that I would mate the Lsi series with. But on the other hand it will run them just fine.Remeber what your spending here. There are better receivers at that price range better suited for the job.
