rti a7 rattle

I have a rattling sound coming from one of my rti a7's during lower frequence playback. It's only coming from one of my speakers. I was waking The Dark Knight last night and that speaker almost made it unwatchable with all the rattling during the action scenes.

I checked the lower port tube and it is fine. I also moved the speaker around tilting it to see if i can hear anything moving around inside, and i hear nothing. What else should I look for, my closest polk dealer is over 200 miles away. So I need to fix this myself.

could be a number of things, loose screw glue on speaker failing. Those are annoying and usually have to just mess with and pinpoint the problem. like a rattle in a car. Good luck, and welcome

I had a similar problem with RTi12's and it ended up being a bad cabinet. Try pulling the crossover out of the back while hooking up only the woofers to the amp/receiver. If pulling the crossover out fixes it, it may be the cabinet that is bad. Same thing happened to me and with only one speaker.

Thanks for the info.....I tried to tighten all the screws on the front, but I wont be able to test it out again until tonight.

I hope its not a bad cabinet, what did polk do for you in that situation. Can you elaborate on how to take the crossover out, just unscrew it from the back?

okay i took out both woofers and they looked fine, I didnt see any wires that could cause any problems, and if felt and looked around and didn't find anything....i tightened up everything good, and it's still a problem.....whats my next step

It looks like I have a distorted bass driver. Ken from customer service has been very helpful in diagnosing this problem. I will keep the community updated on the situation.
