Thoughts on Power Cords

I'm looking to pick up Power cords from Signal Cables
to power up 2 amps for now, add ons later for other sources.
Thoughts on these cords and what is best for amps. The price on the
Signal look very reasonable. I'm using the "packaged" cords right now
and looking for a nice value added upgrade.
Thanks in advance;
Bill

For Signal I'd just go for the Magic Power. If you had quite a bit more money to spend, I'd go with the PS Audio Plus or Statement.Speakers: Polk LSi15

Can you tell me what you like about them?
How do they seem to help your amps?
Just trying to look at all the reasons to purchase  I do like the way they look. Did you get a noticeable improvement in ?
Thanks for any thoughts -
I used a Signal Magic Power cord on my girlfriend's headphone amp and we both noticed a reduction in floor noise. I would also consider it a warmer sounding cord compared to the other Signal other PC's and the PS Audio Prelude SC we listened to that day."He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. Whoever just made that tag needs to turn in their audiophile card immed.i..a..t...........wait. This just in. Gotcha. They never had one.

I used the Signal Digital Magic power cable on my Denon 3910. It helped tame the highs on my RT3000s. They were much smoother (not as harsh). If you wait, usually you can pick one up used on the forum. That way, if you don't see a difference you can sell it to someone else and only be out the shipping.____________________________________________________________

Minor thread jack... I am looking at some amps that have the fixed 'boring' power cords. I like the idea of seperate power cords (mainly because they're cool looking). Is there any way to convert a fixed power cord into a removable one?

Im interested in doing this myself.Im going to order some DH.labs power plus cable and just terminate the male end and wire the bare end directly into the amps.:eek:I have to figure out where to get some of those things that clamp the cord to the chassis though.Im also going to do the same to the pre also...
I think mapleshade has some kits or some such that you can use to do the same thing...sort of.
CLEARVIEW AC CORD KITS (To Replace Hardwired Cords):
NO EXTRA COST!
Any good CD player, amp, turntable, or recorder could be great-sounding with a first-rate AC cord. No dice if the piece doesn’t have a removable cord. Since this comes up so often, we’ve developed a kit to change your cord easily—without diving into the bowels of your gear wielding a soldering iron. Couldn’t be simpler: just get a Clearview Power Cord Kit. It comes with prepared and marked bare wire ends plus insulated copper butt splices that you simply squeeze on with pliers—no soldering. Just cut your component’s captive cord 3" from the box and scrape bare the conductors at the cut end, slip on the butt splices, and squeeze. By the way, it’ll sound better than if you’d paid somebody $100 to hard-wire in an IEC jack. The add-on IEC jack and mating plug just add a lot of unnecessary, bad-sounding dielectric.
NO EXTRA COST—just ask for the Kit Version when you order your AC Cord.SDA-2BTL with custom IC

Absolutely. All you need to do is buy an aftermarket IEC. Even the best Furutech will only run you about $15.00. Cut the proper size hole, wire it up and you're good to go.

Very cool thanks! I will definitely look into this. -
In response to your question about the Signal power cords, I felt like they opened up my amp a little and appeared more detailed with more solid bass. I never even used the stock cord on the A21, the day I ordered the Parasound, I sent an email to Signal Cable. I also like to have a cable customized to the exact length I needed. I have also used Signal's middle level digital refence cable for my CD player and felt it sharpened that sound as well, but did replace it recently with a Nordost Vishnu, which provided a little more 3d sound to vocals to my ear and my wife's ear who, by the way, is a card carrying audio gear hater forever type. Once again, I know this is a much disputed topic, but I am happy to share my thoughts. By the way, this is my favorite forum by far. Thanks.Anthem D2v

It's not. The best way is to remove the rear panel and use a metal punch of the appropriate size. However, most of us don't have the equipment to do this or the patience for this level of disassembly.
Cutting a neat hole in a (sometimes thick) metal plate that is attached to a valuable piece of electronics requires some thought and care. There's lots of ways of doing it. I prefer to use a Dremel with a cutoff wheel to cut into the metal. This method is quick and offers far more control than using a handheld jigsaw. Reference figures 7 and 8 of this thread.
If you are going to cut the hole while the rear plate is attached to the unit, careful consideration must be given to containing the resulting metal particles. You must also make sure that there is enough clearance for the IEC socket and wires on the inside of the case.Proud and loyal citizen of the Digital Domain and Solid State Country! -
Have you tried using a nibbler?"He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you." Friedrich Nietzsche

We use nibblers at work and they are great. Easy to use and don't create much of a mess.

No. I didn't see where any hand tool like that would be useful for cutting out a neat little 1" rectangle. Have you used them in this application?
Somebody probably makes one that has cutting tips small enough to navigate in a very small opening, but I don't know of one.Proud and loyal citizen of the Digital Domain and Solid State Country! -

Need about a 1/4" hole to start. It will trim an old car dash, so it's more than enough.
