For guys who can build it themselves it would be a super deal. The drivers are $95 each, plans are $30, not sure how much for the MDF/screws/glue but I'll guess $50. For under $300 you could have the same sub I was very happy to get for $1100.

BTW, if you look on their site you see it can have the bottom on or off. Mine is off now sitting on the carpet. I think this is why it is so tactile. I'll screw on the bottom later to see how the sound is affected.

Avantgarde horns, 300b tubes, thats the kinda crap I want... :D

Sweet! Thanks again. If it degrades into Tom and I whipping the **** out of each other while trying to build this thing, I'll send pics too. Should be interesting.

    You are a **** LM.
Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
    Thanks
    Ben

When first powered up the sub sounded like **** for about an hour or two. Be prepared for that. The driver is very stiff before break in. It was noisy, would pop very easily, had no guts and sounded very bad. At first I thought it was junk.

I am totally in love with it. I like it so much I'll be ordering a second one for stereo on my audiophile rig. It is so quick sounding and matches with other speakers so well you can't point to it an say its on. On real sub bass passages it does amazing things to the room but still gives no indication whether it is on or not. It makes other subs I've heard sound slow, sloppy and disconnected from the music.

That's known as a pocket-hole. If you suck at joinery, buy a pocket-hole jig. You'd be amazed at the results you can get with no experience whatsoever:

    Cheap but effective

    Pricey but better results

Awesome! Thanks for sharing the pics. Do you have a pic of how you have it set up in your rig?

Not yet. I have a hard set rule with all speaker placement, I try everything before settling on the final location due to room variance. Right now it is between me and the speakers, sitting there as a coffee table would, mouth facing me. Keep in mind it is a huge room with added walkway to the side and a big open kitchen/diningroom area at the back. All in all its about 20' wide and 32' long with double high ceilings so placement options are not really obvious.

I was looking at that at one time. Glad you like it. Bass horns are great in my opinion. They are a lot more musical and don't give you that thump slam like a car going down the street.

I use to run a pair of 18" Bassmaxx B1's in my home theater and it was insane. With the new house and new setup I've gone with a Danley Sound Labs DTS-10 tapped horn sub. You can read about it under this post: http://www.polkaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1292483

GD, that's sexy. I think I'd call it more of a tapered TL, though... but maybe I'm looking at it wrong.
