Has anyone heard one of these? I'm considering one to complement the Avantgarde Duos. They need a "quick" subwoofer. Looks interesting to me.

Bandpass?? That is an interesting design. Makes me want to break out the saws and routers. Might have to check it out.
Two sealed chambers should keep the bass tight. then firing across each other on the front side...HMMMM....
Thanks max, If I get a wild hair up my arse, I might build one.

Its a folded horn? No way. Its just all folded inside, and kinda like a horn. But I don't think its a folded horn.

    folded horn one possible definition....

    (engineering acoustics)
An acoustic horn in which the path from throat to mouth is folded or curled
to give the longest possible path in a given volume.

Looks to be a bargin. I know you already have an amp to drive it with in that magical mystery closet of yours.

I'm sure there would be a good choice somewhere in that closet. :D

If I thought I had enough patience I would try to build one of these enclosures myself with the plans. It looks a little tough with all those angles though and my guess is it would never get done.

Hey folks. Just ordered a set of plans. This one just seemed right for a subwoofer build.

Awesome! Let us know how it turns out. I ordered their plans and drivers for this one a long long time ago and STILL haven't done it... http://www.decware.com/newsite/HDT.htm

Its planned for this summer sometime. I have to get it done because I want to try the sub and refuse to order more plans before doing the ones I already have. :)

My move to CO put a big delay in all my plans but I'm lazy too, can't forget about that either.

To many irons in the fire syndrome. I feel yer pain, bud.
Any thoughts on different drivers for that sub cabinet? The recommended ones look good, but was wondering about other compatible drivers for that configuration. I found some with similar Q and FAS values. Just curious.

I've been wondering the same thing. I have some 10" ones sitting around but who knows how they would compare. I'm afraid you could end up with poorer sound quality or quickness and never know it without comparing.

Update: I knew I would never get a sub like this put together myself so I ordered one pre-built. It seemed kind of expensive, $1100 or so all together with the specified woofers, plus you need to provide a subwoofer crossover/amp, but I really wanted to try one. I received it last week and hooked up to a 500 watt subwoofer amp. Wow! Its extremely fast and musical (most important), plays low, super efficient, very big scale sound, gives absolutely no indication of where it is, more tactle than any sub I've ever heard and has no cone noise at loud volumes. Lightman1, get out your saw man! This one is a winner. Order the specified woofers, it can't get any better... I'll be ordering a second one as soon as possible for stereo. I don't plan on building myself after seeing the craftsmanship these guys put into it. I'll start another thread when I do a review and post some pics of it. This is the first sub I've ever really liked.

Congrats on your purchease Madmax. Are you running it with a x-over right now?
I really feel you need horn subs to keep up with the horns in the mains. I was never able to get my sub to properly blend in with my horns.
Glad you're diggin the sound. Horns are so fast and lively, and most importantly, MUSICAL.

Hmmmm, I wonder how this will stack up to the VMPS Larger. I love the one I have and I figured I'd have it for life because it's all that and more......BUT.........you know me, If I can improve something? I will. This design intrigues me. I will be eagerly anticipating your review. Lightman, get your **** down here to my house. We can build the thing in my garage! That would be a head to head comparison I would LOVE to hear battled out.

I have one of the parts express xover-amps meant to be built into a sub. There is no space to mount in the sub.

This sub was a no brainer, even when you consider having it pre-built. I wish I had skill in wood cutting because I'd like a few more of them, another for the music system and one for the HT room.

Man, I bet it sounds awesome. I'm gonna think about this one. I'm having a hard time blending in my sub to a pair of planars. I may buy the plans and drivers, but first I'm gonna ask my dealer to build it for me. Shipping, taxes and border charges will kill me if I order a pre built.

Does this thing need a lot of space to sound good?

Russ had a monster bandpass subwoofer he used in his HT for years. I've heard some folded horn subwoofers but not that one. It looks pretty nice.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

Have you done any research into a Velodyne SMS-1? That would solve that issue, provided you have a halfway good sub to start with and not just what I would consider a mid-bass module.

Ok, I had no idea they made one of those. I just looked at the link quickly but didn't see a price for the unit. Will do more research after this.
I'd love to have one of those. I really hate tweaking the sub.

I forgot to mention, I sold my PSW650 to a friend last week. So I have to get a sub again. That's why I've got this horn sub on my list.

Hey Tom! Howz next weekend for ya? I'll bring the plans and frosty adult beverages. Need to check on some amps, though. Max's comments re-lit the fire under my patootie. Thanks Bro!

No problem, I've got one. They are fantastic. They are also infinitely adjustable and add no extra noise.
