ok i had to return svs subwoofer back this morning.... to pay the lawyer :(

After the **** i been thru is over asap, my wife said ok for me to re buy svs and buy few speakers for surround.. to relief my stress watching movies and relax with foot massage (we give both footmassage at sametime everynite :D)

so i am considering Rti a3 for surround to timbre match my temporary rt800 HT until i recieve Rti a9 for christmas. this will be my christmas present from my wife and my mother (Both gonna split on $:D).

so i was wondering whats your suggestions for side speakers? Rti a1 or a3 with a3 for rear surround? i figure if i buy a5's for side and rears it would be equally investment if i buy a3 and stands for it? stands is about hundred bucks possibly more with shipping??.. so it wouldnt make any difference with amount of money. a5's is one object.

Am trying to save money...... and make my investment worthwhile

Copied and paste from Polk vintage speaker page

    RT800i

    Efficiency 90 dB

what does this mean? does this mean crank to 90 db to make speakers efficiency? Wont that be too loud or in danger to break speakers?? I have not crank over 70 db.. im scared to... Dont want to ruin my onkyo or speakers..

    please clarify for me.. thanks

To clarify? When you hear distortion of any kind.

Turn it down a notch or two.

i cant hear any disortion.. thats why i asked.. im curious as i am reading polk specs page and got me wondering when i noticed 90 db efficency.. I know that bass will be louder (efficency for me) but scared to break it. so is it saying that i can crank up to 90 db without breaking it because its efficency at 90 db?

To further clarify, refer to post #35.

If you can not notice distortion? Hmmmmm, I can not help you. Let your ears be the judge. That's all I have to say about that.

    Rock on.

I think the 90db is 1 watt @1 meter but could be wrong. I would not turn it up to 90db. Instead have you wife listen and stop you when she is comfortable with the volume. Try both music and movies and make a note of where the volume is and you should be fine.

Yes...the 90db is just a specification. In this case, 90 watts is what it puts out at full ouput, with a 1 watt input at 1 meter of distance.

I'm sure it will go louder than 90db. Since you can't hear distortion though, have your wife let you know when it starts distorting. More than likely it will be plenty loud enough before she ever starts to hear distortion though.

if i crank to 90 db and speaker wont break because rt800i effective at 90 db...

and will R40 (as rear surround) timbre match my rt800 and center speaker?

That's not really what it means, that's just an efficiency rating. I'm not an expert myself, but it basically tells you how efficiently a given amplifier is going to be able to run the speaker.

No, it won't be. The R40's used completely different drivers than the RT800i.
