Ok......the lesson here is if you don't ask, you won't likely get what you want.......

I'm buying a place (will talk about this later in another thread), but am buying all the appliances separately instead of having the builder add them onto the mortgage because I ultimately want to give the finger to the morons that I've been dealing with (long story), so I called up Best Buy looking for their prices on a few things and they said they'll match all prices etc etc. I told him I found a few really good deals on things online and asked if they would match web pricing as well. He said they would?!?!

SO.....I'm bought GE Appliances and a few LG Washer/Dryer Bases:

GE Profile Dual Fuel free standing range
GE Profile above stove Microwave
GE Profile Dishwasher
LG Washer and Dryer base

Total for everything was $3850ish.....

All in all, just off MSRP I saved $995, another $300ish in tax. and got $300 in gift cards, plus another $200 from GE rebates on top of that.

GREAT DAY!!!!!!

(ask to match online pricing......you might be surprised at the answer)

They always make money, they wouldn't sell all those products if they didn't.

I also have had nothing but great experiences with BB.

I think BB is cool but I read articles about them facing charges about jacking up the prices back in 2006 .

Its vague in my mind now but what they were doing was a fake price comparisons with selective high priced internet sellers . They instructed employees to do this etc...

Seems like the have it together now and congratulations on saving money

Not sure if its the same thing, but I remember something about their internet pricing (Best Buy's Internet pricing to be clear) being different than the in-store pricing. And if you used the internet terminals in the store you got the in-store pricing-not the same pricing as seen from elsewhere (like home). This way they didn't have to price match their internet sales.

I asked about the tax thing and he said that Best Buy still pays the tax, but they aren't passing it along to me. Every once in a while you'll hear of a retailer doing some 'no sales tax' promos....this is basically what they're doing....

To clarify, the builder is putting in appliances (dishwasher, stove, and microwave), but they're basic and ugly and black. They wanted to charge me about what I'm paying, except they were acting like they had reduced their pricing when they hadn't. The plan is basically to move in, remove all their appliances, then install mine and sell off the basic ones for even more coin.

Either way, I'm happy knowing that I'm also going to get the airline miles on top of it all by using my Delta Sky Miles American Express......win win win...lol

Good Lord... the Washer/Dryer that I got when I moved into my place cost $100 for the pair out of the newspaper. My electric stove (a nice GE, almost new) cost $30 from an estate auction. The most expensive appliance was the refridgerator (a really nice side-by-side whirlpool) which my dad bought for me for $200, also from the newspaper.

You paid nearly 1/10th what it cost me for my entire house!!!

I bet they'll be nicer than my 20 year old dryer, though.
    Ludicrous gibs!

    Pat.

I'll bet that matching B&M only is the policy, and that it's manager's discretion (whether that is policy or not) to match other sources.

Actually most stores I've dealt with (with respect to price matching), will only match B&M or well known online retailers (that usually have a B&M somewhere), and only if they also have the product in stock and its advertised somewhere. But again, it may not be worth the stores time to bother with verifying stock status and just get the sale.

Bed Bath and Beyond used to accept competitor coupons (Linens n Things), but since LNT went out of business, I though for sure that they would stop their own coupons out ever other week. Heck They still send the coupons (20% off, etc) and they also don't limit you to just one coupon per purchase and they even accept expired coupons. I used 6 expired coupons ( from 2006 and 2007!!) all on one purchase last week.

Their new policy is to not accept the expired coupons, which is why they subtley say something like "while our policy is to no longer take expired coupons, we'll make an exeption for you today" or something to that effect. My sister works there and said they've started to clamp down a bit more and if the coupon now has that big yellow surround indicating not to be accepted past by date, they won't.........

Yeah I figured it was one of those unwritten things...I mean the coupon clearly stated the expiration date-there is no reason for them to continue to accept them. If they implemented new policy then I guess it will just take time for the cashiers to get used to it. My wife said they will accept them, I told her they won't, but they did. I was surprised.

Best Buy has always treated me right. Got the top of the line Samsung Steam washer / dryer combo for WAY cheap compared to most places (basically they matched the best price we could find for the units and gave us buy one get one free stands).

Ontop of all that, three weeks later I saw they were doing triple points. I brought my receipt and they gave me the triple points, no hassle at all.

I find they go out of their way to treat you right and get you the best prices. Usually, they are close on price to begin with. If not, they'll match any legit offer you do find.

Can't you have the builder leave out the appliances and credit you that amount off of your sale price? If they don't, you will still be paying on them for 30 years (assuming a 30 year mortgage), and will definitely pay more in interest than you could make on their sale. Unless you pay what you get for them as additional principal payment on your mortgage, thereby lowering your balance and the associated interest that you will be paying.

They're basic appliances and they don't do credits back on things to be taken out.

They will credit towards something else however, thus the alternate appliances I was going to get through them, but they were only going to credit something like $150 when it costs around $500 (stove)......The appliances are there, so whatever. The only reason I'd have to worry about the 30 year aspect is if I was going to be staying there for 30 years, which I won't.......I'm guestimating 5-10 then standalone instead of the townhouse.

+1 on BB internet price matching. I bought my Sony SXRD 60A2000 from them brand new back in the hay day of those TV's for $2000. I brought in an "ad" I had printed from an online store for $1600 and while I didn't expect them to go that low on a $3,000 TV, they will sell it it to you for cost and that is as low as they will go. Still not bad I saved $1,000 on a tv, and you can't beat that. Only "dowside" is that they will charge you the shipping cost, so make sure it has free shipping. I ended up getting refunded the shipping cost after I brought it up with the store manager (who had a soft spot for Military members, lol) You can save a bunch of cash at BB with their internet price matching, just have to take advantage of it.

good job Brett22, nice to see someone saving and not being ripped off! When we bought our newest place we went to 4 different appliance stores. We started with the first one, Future shop they gave us their "best deal" which was ok. Went to an all appliance store, they were having a huge sale one of those factory direct pricing which killed the prices at FS. We then went to another all appliance store. When we showed them the prices, he couldn't believe our prices he said the guy who gave you that is taking a loss there is no way we can match it. So we left that place in a hurry. We then went to sears. Well our guy at Sears beat all the prices from the Factory direct quotes. We, like you ended saving almost 750$ as we bought Whirlpool gold washer.dryer, LG smoothtop/convection range, LG fridge. So good for you on the major savings!!
