So....start voting for an independent candidate in four years if you think they both have or will "divide" this country. Thats the game of our political system that goes in cycles every four to eight years or so...the country just shifts back and forth between the "lesser of two evils"...

Ding! It's the idiots who keep thinking the "other side" is "dividing the country" who are really the divisive ones.

I'm for freedom and equality for all people, but anyone or any group that demands special treatment "just because we are ___fill in the blank___," are the people that are demanding/consuming extraordinary amounts of resources and are mucking it up for the entire system.

It seems that the last truly viable 3rd party candidate we had was Ross Perot (1992). I had forgotten about Perot until I watched a documentary last weekend called The War Room on the Clinton campaign headed by a much younger James Carville and George Stephanopolis. Though the doc. does not focus on Perot, I had forgotten about the fact that he had built up a fair amount of support, then dropped out, and then re-entered. And I couldn't help but wonder whether his chances would have been improved had he just stuck in the race for the duration. I'm not sure why he followed that path -- what I do remember is that two of my older friends (I was 19 at the time) had worked very hard for the campaign but then were very bitter when he decided to call it quits in the summer, only to come back.

Anyway, that was a very interesting time in U.S. politics as all of these ideas on big issues were clashing. Additionally, I think having a viable 3rd party candidate helps rather than hurts the democratic process.

The reason there is never a "viable" third party candidate is because any politically savvy candidate knows they have to squeeze themselves into one of the two idiotic parties we have set up, and any candidate who settles for a third party nomination just gets ridiculed away by everyone who can't fathom someone without an R or D next to their name.

It is impressive that Perot managed to pull in 19% of the popular vote in '92, but that's 17 years ago now, and things haven't gotten BETTER.

Exactly my point...we all have what we believe to be our core set of values.
The 2-party system preys on these values by telling us what we want to hear (as do many of our sources of news) by attempting to demonize the other side and create wedge issues to divide people.

In the end, I agree...we get what we deserve. I have taken the view that I really don't mind or care what anyone's political views are, as long as they are factual, informed views. Do a little research on the issues beyond what CNN and FOX tell you.

I know I'm making generalizations and this is in no way singling anyone on this forum out...just something to think about.

Seeing dignified old Bob Gibson. That man was 100% old school warrior. I'm old enough to remember the last few years of Stan Musial, but the '67 - '68 Cards were something else. Games on AM radio every night, they were like the Gashouse Gang reborn.

Yep, it appears that the bait was set in this thread and some suckers bit.

The President throwing the opening pitch for a baseball game has been a tradition that goes back 80 years or so. Whether or not folk like Obama being President, he deserves the overall respect of being our President. Especially, for doing trivial and traditional things like throwing the first pitch in a baseball game....

Obama was elected President by the Nation via a very fair process. At the end of his term we can kick him out of office ... or sooner if he really f**ks up.

    The OP should be reported.

Politics aside, this actually hurts quite deep. I don't ever want this to happen to a President.

I bet its a bit more difficult to throw a baseball with a bulletproof vest on, which I assume any president has on in an open area like a baseball stadium.

Also, I think history will show how much the Bush presidency divided this country.
    So, what your saying then is that they let President Bush go out and pitch a perfect strike with the catcher behind the plate in a crouch without a vest on? And that somehow a sleeveless vest changed this clown's whole delivery mechanics to the point that he couldn't even toss a 9 inch circumference, 5 ounce ball the whole 60 feet 6 inches to home plate without looking like a total ****? And as far as a divided country goes, you can thank a traitorous and dishonest congress led by Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi along with a large number of mainstream media outlets that are no longer interested in telling the story as it happened, but how they perceive it, or more the point, how they want you to see it.;

As far as devisiveness goes, your comments are a perfect example of what we are talking about. Please read the whole thread. If we as a country cannot have a civilized discussion about politics, then we are all doomed...

it's not about "we as a country" -- it's about an online forum via privately owned company that doesn't allow political topics in its discussion forums. Read the rules. Re-read them if necessary. If you still feel the need to talk politics -- then go visit Huffington Post or Newsbusters. Or better yet, write an fn' letter to your congressman.

Seriously, what is so complicated about this?!?

(edit: this isn't addressed to either KevHead or SWFalken, just the forum in general).
