Hey guys and gals,

Here are some pics of the 100+ cars that showed up last month for the inaugural charity drive and luncheon for Malibu California Sheriff's department. It was a blast!

All the proceeds went to the sheriff's dept. for new gear, etc.

There was a helicopter present that took overhead pics and video. The run was police escorted and very fun.

Later in the day, the sheriff's dept had a live auction for a 4 hour ride in the helicopter and the bidding hit $8500.00.

Check out the pics and cool cars.

Tell me about it, but the two guys who got in the bidding war at the end each drove cars north of $200k.

A drop in the bucket to these guys.

The cops were taken aback when the bidding went that high, it was funny to watch the facial expressions in the room.

They did end up adding a 5 star lunch in addition to the flight.

It all went to a good cause so in the end it was all worth it.

The route could have been better planned, but it was the first event put together by the group so hopefully better next year.

If you two are done with your slap-fight, can we get back to the story about MALIBU cops asking for hand-outs.

    LOL,

The Southern California Exotic Car Club put it all together.

I don't believe it was the cops asking for handouts, more like a bunch of well to do folk wanting to put on a public event, with the help of the sheriff's dept, and asking for other enthusiasts to put up some cash for a good cause.

I heard about it from a Viper Forum I am on and signed up because it sounded cool.

The benefit was an event that brought a lot of car guys and girls together and there was not one incident (I think someone got a no plate ticket, but it wasn't from our police group, might have been LAPD)

Anyway, my original point of posting the picture link (which seems to have been lost here with some) was to just share with the group some cool pics of a great day.

I think it's pretty cool to see some of these vehicles all together on the road all at once, and at the end of the day be a part of something that went to a good cause.

    Have a good one :)

Right... so what was the "good cause." Cause I'm pretty sure giving the sherrif's department more cash isn't a "good cause" in my book. They rape the taxpayers enough with BS traffic tickets in those beach towns, having a fundraiser?
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

    Hi Bob,

Your definition of "good cause" might be different than mine, so I will just leave it at that. :D

I didn't put the run together, I only participated in it and just shared the photos and some thoughts of the day, nothing more nothing less.

    Thanks.

    It's a Tesla.

Two reps from Tesla had the orange roadster on this drive.

The guy who owns the company I work for owns a Tesla roadster too.

    Neat car.

That is very cool, but, it looks like there are some Covette's there, in no way to do those qualify as "exotic". Also, while Lamob's are expensive I'd not consider them exotic either, there so 1980's.

Just driving down Sunset to the beach (Palisades to Malibu) you can see alot of these on weekends here. Must have been cool to see so many in one place.

0-60 in under 4 seconds and a motor that produces peak torque from 0 to 6k rpm doesn't do it for me, either.

Of course, if it's the fact that it's a zero emissions vehicle that bothers you, they do offer options of a baby fur seal interior and windshield washer fluid based on DDT.

The Corvette ZR-1 definately qualifies as exotic, as it will SPANK the crap out of most of the cars present at that meet. And with a dealer mark-up of 50k on them, the price is most assuredly in the exotic range.;)

It's not a question of performance so much as rarity. "Exotic" cars tend to be cars you never see, and you see a lot of Corvettes around.
