I'm tired of this.... I have 2 12" polk MOMO subwoofers running off a Sony Xplod GTR9001 amp 650 watt to one channel MAX these subs don't blow till 800 and one sounds bad... it has this terrible buzz in it.... doesn't sound completely blown b/c it still kicks... pumps out plenty bass still but buzzes bad... 2nd time in 5 months i've had a problem with em... gonna call polk tomorrow and see if i can get a replacement... AGAIN... unless any1 has a clue... the cone is perfectly intact, coil looks fine. and the other one just sounds off for some reason doesn't sound very good.... i'ma ask if i can get another series or something b/c i'm tired of these things messing up from an amp that doesn't even push enough power to hurt them... even if i only had 1 on there it'd be running at 4ohm and the amp wouldn't push enough power!!!! the 30$ MTX subs my friend just bought sound better than these things do atm b/c something is messed up!!! these subs cost 4x the price and sound worse!!! BLAH!
sry just venting my anger.

Are you sure that you are not cranking up your amp, so that it clips? If it clips, it will surely blow the speakers. The more *clean* power out of the amp - the better.Panasonic PT-AE4000U projector for movies

check your current and distortion levels.
you may be overdriving and overloading the speakers
if the voicecoils are burnt that is an indication that you possibly may be improperly
operating your system. -
I'm currently working on replacing the amp... i hate sony.... lol.... but i keep having to spend money to ship them back! lol and it's nothing to do with the amp making the subs sounds weird b/c only one sounds weird. And you can hear it when you push in on the cone when they're not doing anything I think it has to do with the coil.
And to Viper my RCA cable was broken and before it broke they worked fine and i tested everything i could think of and tested them on friends amp (even weaker but nicer infinity amp) and they sounded fine. I get new RCA cable hook it all up and started listening and it sounded weird. so idk... -
If polk will replace it great. Turn the gain down on your amp a little, and don't listen as loud. I hooked up a set of kicker 12" l7s in a customers and dialed every thing in, sounded great and hit really hard even though he was under powering them. I told him, do not change the settings on the amp, or you might cook your subs, he said ok, and that was that. I had the gain barley even turned up, and bass boost was all the way down. A week later the kid came back, and my boss was ready to kill me, and he told me to pull the car in and check it. First thing I did was check the levels on the amp. The gain, and bass boost were cranked all the way up. Went and relayed the info to my boss who then proceeded to rip the kid a new one. The kid cam in bitchin' about the way I had it set up an it was my fault. Long story short, just make sure your not over driving your amp.

I need to use the bass boost b/c i use factory head unit and installed Line out converter myself. But i don't think it's blown i know what a blown speaker sounds like adn blown sub woofer sounds like... this thing kicks great still just has an annoying noise coming from it very awkward.... i dunno what it is though.
