iPhone pros and cons and data costs of plans

Tethering is not supported by the IPhone unless you jailbreak and install 3rd party software.
Does jailbreaking void the warranty or not, or is that issue still in the courts? -
I avoided Iphone all together and went with the Palm Pre. Although it is slightly buggy, it gets updates often and it is a great phone. Sprint is much better than AT&T, too.

My Wife does around 17,000 texts a month, my Sister-in-Law who is 17 and we pay for her Iphone 3GS does like 38,000 texts a month and I am not kidding.
:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:
i don't even send that many texts in a year. :eek:PolkFest 2012, who's going>?

the iphone is a wonder and a great pocket tool. I use mine everyday at work or at home. It's a ok camera no zoom feature on the original model. I don't really care for that. but the quality for a phone is better then most. ATT at a service provider I don't think is as good as Verizon. So once in a while I wll not have coverage where Verizon does.
I can get online anywhere and jump on WiFi networks which is a blessing when you need to find out something quick. The actual Internet is very very nice to have instead of a meda data type cell phone oaky doaky version.
The Apps are unreal. There are so many to choose from. You can get caught up in all the apps which most are a time waster. I have 5 pages of apps and don't use half of them. When I'm bored It's a play toy.
Time management is a huge part of the iphone. Contacts , calendar , notes , personal voice messaging(new with the new software) is a excellent tool. I use those features all the time. It's great to record something you have to remember. I forget **** all the time.
It's a bit more expensive month to month is you have not realized from the above posts but it's worth it if you use it. O and as a cell phone it's ok, It's not the best but it's clear and responsive. It's pretty comfortable to use with it's shape. I don't like the face juice that gets on the screen if your hot sweaty and have to make/take a call.
I would not want any other phone. I love my iphone and I'm planning upgrading to the new 3gs once they are available. They are all sold out around here and I check from time to time. Once the craze dies down, I'll get my new one. Untill then I will love using my original iphone.
O I forgot it's also a really nice Ipod with video out. I use it at customers house with Ipod docks/controllers. Its really cool to see my customers faces light up with I whip it out and use it for all kinds of things.

The big three gripes: the iPhone 3GS battery life is dismal, the 3GS overheats, and there's a serious SMS vulnerability. -

You can jailbreak an Iphone and put everything back to it's original setting doing a restore or in most cases, when the next version of software comes out. That's one of the big drawback of the Iphone (it's so much software driven, it's like having another PC).
Don't pay for jailbraking, there are free softwares out there, PM me if you have any questions. I used the Iphone for a long time without using the ATT plan until they decided to support MS Exchange.Main Gear

Tethering is not supported by the IPhone unless you jailbreak and install 3rd party software. I use PdaNet and it works well both wirelessly and via USB connect. The software is not free ($30) but you can use it as a trial for a limited time.
Where did you find that software? In Cydia?1993 Ford Ranger super cab:

Yes. Search for PdaNet or you can look at the info here. http://www.junefabrics.com/iphone/index.php
You need to install the desktop application if you use the USB connnection. For Wireless tethering, just set up an Ad Hoc wireless on your computer.
It states that it doesn't support the latest 3.0 software but I use it on my 2G with Apple 3.0 software without any problem.Main Gear

That is, until you have to call customer service.
Sprint has the best service in town, but the worst customer service that I have ever experienced.
AT&T isn't great, but they sure don't go out of their way to beat up a customer like Sprint does.Main Surround -

Don't know why you'd want to tether a 2G iphone. EDGE is ridiculously slow!Main Surround -

But I'm not paying more for the PHONE service, I'm paying more for teh everything else service that you do not have (or want, which is fine).
What exactly is "for the data"? I don't have a texting phone - if someone sends me a text message, I don't get it. Which has happened in the past before.polkaudio RT35 Bookshelves

It's a SmartPhone, not a regular cell phone, data connection is essential to use it to its fullest. I worked for Nokia for 10 years so I always had the latest and greatest cell phone toys in the market, now I'm using a very basic phone, one that doesn't even have BT. The only application that I really would want in a phone is a (A)-GPS functionality, but many use SmartPhones as a replacement for a laptop. -

Data, as in... internet connectivity. Text messages are different, hence my listing them separately. Smartphones have browsers, as well as various programs that can connect to the internet for IM, email, music, video, etc. All of that goes over a data connection (in the case of the iPhone, a 3G data connection, or WiFi if available). If you will it, dude, it is no dream. -

I found it this afternoon while playin around. But a friend of mine gave me something else that he said is better. Go to this address on your phone and it'll install it. It should be under your general settings.
