dsw pro 600 vs new svs pc12 nsd

I'm just about ready to upgrade to a decent sub. I was set on the dsw 600, but I've been looking at the new svs. Does anyone have any experiance with the new svs pc12 nsd ? It cost a bit more, I'm wondering if the extra change is worth it. My room is roughly 14 x 26 and it would be used mostly for movies, I usually listen to music in pure direct mode. Any comments are much appreciated.

Haven't heard the dsw's but the SVS' model before the one youre looking at is sick. Its also more of an HT sub as opposed to a musical sub, but who says you cant play music with it? I was hearing alot of good things about the dsw that you really get alot of value for the money, especially if you went with a refurb on polk ebay. As for that, I also had epic sentinels on my list along with a sunfire hrs8/10, if you dont mind spending just a little more go give them an audition too.

A couple things jump out at me. "14x26 and mostly movies." I didn't check the $ difference but it doesn't sound like it scares you off so I have to say SVS all the way. With you location shipping should be minimal.

I think the price difference is a couple hundred. I really like the features of the 600, but the svs is ..well.. an svs. It is noticably smaller than its predecesors, though. I don't know of anywhere around here to demo either one, in fact my system was built from info I've read here(can't thank you guys enough :)) decisions,decisions.. hmmm...

Well, SVS is located in Ohio, I'd call them and find where the nearest authorized retailer is, or go to the company itself, see if they've got anything out you can listen to. Although if you did that, you might just leave with a much thinner waller than you would have hoped to. Svs subs are beasts imo

I've never heard the SVS sub but I own the DSW-PRO 600 and it does a very good job equally on HT and music.
From what you said you'll be using it mostly in HT,so I'll limit my comments to that, you will get that ground thumping in the chest feeling even at half volume, and it really does a great job of filling in the low end of a movie soundtrack, but don't expect to rattle the pictures off the wall.

My set-up is in a 20 x35' room and it does an excellent job with plenty of good vibrations....if you're the type that wants that 7.5 earthquake effect then look at something else....if you like "normal" HT then the PRO 600 will meet all your expectations.

Pro's: very musical, nice tight bass with a hard thump when necessary, definitely not BOOMY, good sustained low end vibrations, nice remote control.

Con's: Larger than I thought, volume control needs a little getting used too (you have to count the blinking lights), remote doesn't work when placed in front firing position.

For the price a GREAT DEAL!!!!

    Hope this helps

I'd call SVS since your in NE ohio and see if they would let you hear one. Their customer support is right up there with polk, both companies easily have the best support I have ever dealt with. Also SVS has a 30 day trial period, so you could get one, and since you probably don't live that from from them, you could just take it back, if it's not what you thought it would be.

I was waiting for you to chime in Rodney, how ya been? Not sure what to do yet. I really wanted to keep the sub budget under 5 bills, I was set on the pro600, got the funds, ready to buy, but this little voice in my head keeps saying svs...damn I wish my golf outing wasn't rained out this morning :)

I love Polk Audio stuff and in fact own an awsome pair of RTi 10' that I've had since new in 05. I desperately needed a sub upgrade in the worst way, since my old and tired Infinity just wasn't cutting the mustard anymore. I researched for months, and decided on a brand new HSU VTF3-MK3. It is a few hundred more than your current budget, but in my opinion, well worth every penny. This monster is a beast, that sounds wonderful on both movies and music.I have never heard of anyone being disappointed with a HSU sub. The model that I have will either hold it's own or blow away any 12 inch sub on the market and will out perform many 15 inch subs costing much more.
It WILL Rattle your foundation and it is capable of around 18hz.
You should check out their website at hsuresearch.com and check out Craigs list on subwoofers where he has a terrific reputation and has tested many subwoofers.

I own a dswpro 400 which is up for sale now as well as an svs pb12 ultra. I was thinking about the nsd and talked to the svs guy on the phone and he said it would be more than appropriate for my needs. the dsw400 rocked, but I knew it was an 8 inch sub and I wanted a 12 as I upgraded. I only ended up not getting the nsd because this guy offered me the ultra for 700. In my opinion, there is no question in quality between the polk and the svs, svs will dominate every time.

Thanks for everyones comments and suggestions. I think I'm leaning towards the Polk 600 at this point for a few reasons. Cash flow being first concern. The dsw is over 200.00 less and I still need a decent set of ic's and at some point 2 sets of quality surrounds. The a9's put out some good base on their own, but with movies I'm missing out without a good sub. I can always upgrade to a second pro 600 if needed, but I think that might be overkill in my room.

I believe if you decide on a second DSW600 in the future it will not be overkill in a 14x26 room. That is a rather long room. I am a big fan of having 2 good subs instead of one great sub.:D

I bought the DSW PRO-600 on e-bay from: the_e_warehouse for a grand total of $312.00 shipped I had an 8% off coupon from e-bay and 8% Bing Cashback, this was a deal I just couldn't pass up...

I did check "the_e_warehouse" today and they had none for sale.

I was very pleased with them, the only gripe is they didn't e-mail me with a tracking number so 3 days after I bought it, I was surprised to see the sub at my door.

I like the sub and think it was a stellar deal!!!

E-WARE HOUSE. didn't have the coupons jimmy had, but got it for 370.00 shipped. Pretty good deal IMO and I'll definatly post results on the transaction and the sub itself. Had to shave a little sub cost to save room for ic's in my audio budget- which is $$$$$$$$$ over what I planned, but I'm lovin it :D
