desalination process is used in many parts of the globe

desalination produces drinking water by removing dissolved salts and impurities from seawater or brackish water.

Evaporative and Reverse Osmosis are a couple examples of the methods used

We have a plant right here in Tampa Bay, But it's just not enough. They built a huge resivoir and it leaks have to drain and fix it so even less water. Oh well at least we're getting some rain.

Desalination is a pretty difficult (ie energy intensive) thing to do in large quantities, so we tend to not do it unless absolutely necessary.
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

Do we not have technology to turn salt water, ocean water, into fresh? Just doesn't make sense for states bordering huge bodies of water to have a water shortage.California,Florida?? Imean if we can treat sewage for gods sake, why can't we turn salt into fresh? Just askin'.

I've asked the same question and usually it results in the problem being the NIMBY's, red tape, and budgets.

People still **** and complain about living near a busy airport and demand concessions, even when it was there before they bought the house.
