I just wanted to let everyone know that this past weekend I flew to Seattle from Aniak to meet up with Geoff727 to inspect his 2.3tl's and 2b's that he had for sale.
I had determined before hand that I was not going to leave empty handed, and I am sure that Geoff had picked up on that!!!!
I had/have been jonesing for a set of SDA's for many many years and after following this forum, asking questions, and saving up beer cans I was ready for the plunge.
I left Aniak on Sunday afternoon and after catching another plane in Anchorage landed in Seattle.

A quick phone call confirmed that Geoff would be able to meet me on Monday morning. I think the rental of a 2009 Ford F150 was the tip off that I was inclined to do something besides window shop.

Monday morning I met with Geoff and after walking into the apartment realized that my sickness, compared to Geoff's, is like comparing a runny nose to a terminal disease. Speakers were everywhere!!
I have not seen a set of 2.3tl's in my short existance. The last pair of SDA's I saw was in 1986 in Moscow, Idaho and they were the SRS originals. I had forgotten the sheer size of them.

After helping move and set both the 2b's and the 2.3' up I realized that life would be a hollow existence without them. It was evident, and Geoff agreed that the 2b's were much better suited for the room size. His equipment is on another level, and sounded excellent of course.

After a brief haggling, a price for both sets was agreed upon and I went to the bank.
Geoff and I spent the next few hours wrapping them up and loading them into the truck for the run to family in the Portland area.

I shook hands and headed south on I-5 and with much regret left them in the care of family. I hope to arrange for their shipping to Alaska in the near future. (At least the 2b's)

Got up the next morning at the crack of dawn, drove to Seattle and reversed my course back to Aniak.

When I got home, I told my wife, "That's it, I am done buying speakers." She stared at me for a while and said, 'Just speakers?'
Yes I am in trouble.
Nathan

On another note, just wanted to let everyone know that Geoff takes meticulous care of his equipment and if he has something for sale, and describes it as excellent, rest assured it is.

Good on you Nathan. I know how bad you wanted a pair and how scarce they are up here in alaska, most likely due to the fact that shipping these are a major cost for most people living here and a major hassle for people coming up here to live bringing them with them. I know every day I am both grateful and consider myself to be extremely lucky to own a pair and I smile as soon as I click the power button on the remote for my preamp because I know whats coming next :)

Well, I just pulled off the impossible by doing a double-blind comparison all by myself, purely by virtue of the fact that I completely and stupidly forgot what I did last. I guess that getting old does have its advantages after all :D

Wow! Those things looks pristine! Congratulations!

On a similar note, I got my wife the same way, and never looked back ever since. I mean: I rented a F150 and drove up to her Dad's house, listened to her for a while to see if she sounded good, haggled a bit, but not too much, and then we both packed her up and I drove some distance before dropping her off with relatives until I could arrange to have her shipped.

hopefully "in the care of family" means immediate family. imagine a family dispute leading to a falling out of the in-laws and your pretty new babies get snatched from your ownership.

okay, that was a worst case scenario. hopefully you don't have to wait too long to get these to your residence. i'd be going apeshit having to wait to enjoy something i have already purchased and have been in search of for such a long time... i suppose this will make you appreciate them even more!

Immediate family is a nephew who happens to have a large house with room to spare, and a distinct lack of interest in speakers. His eyes start glazing over whenever I start my 'Matthew Polk is an innovative speaker designer who designed a series of speakers that incorporated the SDA or Stereo Dimensional....", so I am pretty confident that there won't be any power struggles when the time comes. :D
I told him on the next trip I would be setting them up so he could hear them in action and he started backing away, glancing side to side, looking for an escape. Some kids.
His wife is actually more interested in them then he is.

eh, maybe they don't look very "blingy" enough to the lad. (can't judge a speaker by it's cabinet) if he's into music...then he'll not want to give them up to you after you set them up in his place. that, or he'll play the HELL outta them and give them up to you with blown tweets and mids after many hours of music auditioning. lol.

okay, enough jinxing you. i hope you get them home SAFELY asap!

Lets just say that his electronic outlay consists of a universal Sony DVD player given to him by yours truly, a 27 inch tube tv, and a VHS!!!!! player. He does not have cable or satellite. Truly, no interest.
He was impressed by how much of a truck bed they filled up, but that was about it.
But, he loves to fish, rebuild old International Scouts, and takes care of his wife and new baby boy. It could be worse.

Thanks, but I distinctly remember last year finding your You Tube posts about certain SDA speakers. The damn things pushed me towards my pursuit of finding a set. So you are partially to blame for my distinct lack of fundage. Thanks.

Thanks for the offer for a fundraiser, but not needed. I will make arrangements for them to be sent up here, if not, there is talk of a family reunion next year and I would empty them out of drivers and haul the carcasses home over the ALCAN or the Alaska Highway.

Thanks everyone. I was off today and sitting here doing searches for 2btl upgrades and I learned something. Upgrading these will not be cheap!!!
If my math was correct, and god knows I was bestest at English and much worster at math, it will set me back the paltry sum of 342.00 for tweets, caps, and resistors, not including shipping to this outpost.
What the hey!! Of course this will be down the road, but I may need to stockpile things so I can get on it as soon as I can.

Upgrades can be very expensive allright, at some point I should upgrade my SDA's but they sound so good as they are I am not in a hurry. It would cost me more to upgrade them then what I paid for them, I figure roughly $400.00 for tweeters. Not sure of the cost of caps and so on for the crossovers I will most likely take them out and send them to Ben to do but Im sure that will be at least another $400.00 -$500.00 minimum so most likely in the neighborhood of somewhere between $800.00 to $1200.00 total with shipping.

I imagine that shipping to Aniak from Anchorage is probally going to be more than from Seattle-Portland to Anchorage for yours.
