My current system is listed in my sig below. I've been thinking about replacing the polk for some Def. Tech. I don't have much experience with this brand but I know they are good speakers and sounds good. I'll be powering them with the same SR875.

What other brands/model should I consider? Paradigm?

I'm no expert, but if you're looking to upgrade or change things up, I'd add an amp before giving up on your speakers. IIRC, the 875 is rated at around 140 WPC. I promise that my 125 WPC amp does more for my speakers than the 875 - and it's not even close.

Nothing wrong with trying some different speakers, just my $.02.

    Good luck.

I don't have the room fit an amp on my stand. if Idid I'd jump on an amp long ago hence I bought an AVR with the most power that I could afford.

I just started building my Paradigm system with the Studio 100v5 and CC690 in rosenut. They are incredibly beautiful speakers and sound good so far, they should sound great once I get them broken in and properly powered. My Mythos ST system should be ordered in a couple weeks as well. If you want to hold off on your purchase I should be able to provide pics of the final setups and impressions once everything gets here and setup.

I really like Definitive Technology speakers. The BP 10, 20's and 30's are great speakers. They don't make the 20's and 30's any more but the 10's are still a great speaker.

Another good speaker that I have had limited access to listen to but get great reviews would be Energy. You should also put PSB on your list.
Sunfire TGP, Sunfire Cinema Grand, Sunfire 300~2 (2), Sunfire True Sub (2),Carver ALS Platinum, Carver AL III, TFM-55, C-19, C-9, TX-8, SDA-490t, SDA-390t

    Ahorvitz is probably right,

But as it goes with an 8 ohm load that Onkyo can put out about full wattage with 5 speakers...it's a 50+lbs beast and you'd have to step up over 200 watts if you really wanted to improve your HT sound? I sometimes run an 805 and at 130 and a set of M70s/CS2/M30s it's adequate for my mid-sized room.

That being said...it's still somewhat true that SPEAKERS are one of the most important if not the most important upgrades! So if you go with an 8 ohm speaker you should be OK. And can you improve over the Rti-10s..YES!!

I haven't heard all the Def Tech speaks...but they make some good stuff. The speakers that are getting the best reviews these days are their Mythos speakers with the powered subs. I'd look into those if I were you and see what you think...also ask Dan (Mantis)...he has more experience with them. I've heard them a couple of times off a Pioneer Elilte SC-07 in a Magnolia and they're very very clean and powerful...tight bass from the race track-passive radiator module inside the slim aluminum tower.

I've had my Westi since they first release in 06 as well. It's been working flawlessly.

On the same note, I've just scratch this idea of replacing the speakers. Wife thinks it sounds ok, but she likes the new 55" Samsung LED LCD so speakers would have to wait. I rather get a 55" as well. :D

You might want to consider Focal too, something like the Chorus line. They are supposed to be perform really well with "mere" receiver power.

Definitive Technology speakers are fantastic. Very Dynamic and refined sounding. Mythos series is what I like.
