What a horrible way to die:(... I hope there are reprocussions for the snake's owner. It is unclear if the snake was owned by the family.

So sad. I never was able to see why someone would want one of those as a pet.

Sad. Would hope the owner is held liable. Charge's should be pressed. There must be special insurance for owning potentially dangerous exotic animal's, or there should be. This hopefully would have people "go the extra mile" and take the most extreme of measure's to insure this kind of BS doesnt happen. We dont' know the exact circumstance's, but to me, there's no excuse. God speed, little girl.

For the same reason someone wants a dog (which breed has killed far more people), cat's, rats, hamsters, etc...

Just like the dog owners the snake owner/s must be held accountable. If the owners of the snake are the parents I'll bet they are devastated.

The owners should be charged with negligent homicide! What a f'ing moron.

IMO, I dont think it should be legal to have animals like these as pets. Big **** pythons, pit bulls, wild monkeys, whatever. These are wild animals - NOT pets.

It's not about the animals... It's about the extreme neglect shown by their owners that is the problem. A python should never have been kept as a pet in a home with a small child, in the same way a pit bull should not be. I feel bad for the parents, but that in no was should absolve them from accountability here, whether or not they were the owners of this reptile. The ONLY caveat to that is if the snake made entry into the home and did not belong to them. If that proves to be what happened then IF the snakes owner can be found, the owner should be held to account.

So should she.. that snake should NEVER been in the house. The cops should investigate this to ensure it was accidental. There are too many cases of boyfriend not wanting kids around. They should feel so much heat on them it's scary, and then prison for child neglect/manslaughter at the least.

Huh? Read the above. Are you saying that the girlfriend/mother should be investigated or the boyfriend for wanting to get rid of the kid?

    Via snake? Aww, come on!

I am only saying that they should not leave any stone, regardless of how absurd, unturned in their investigation. We live in a sick time where mothers kill their children by pushing cars in a lake and saying their brakes failed, or they don't report them missing until someone starts asking questions months later. I hope it was just an accident and they get punished for it. I simply seek a full measure of justice to be brought for whatever the situation was that brought this child to such a tragic end.

I know what you are saying. From reading the article, it seems pretty good to me that once the situation was discovered, they tried to get the snake off of the baby ... and succeeded, but it was too late.

Stupid, stupid, stupid. You never let a dangerous animal or ... or dangerous anything ... be around children. I guess, I am saying that that both were not sufficient protective parents. What a shame.

Aren't you from down there, Darla? It seems there are a lot of "exotic" animals in Florida homes (according to news reports). Have you ever encountered any of this?

Sad, sad situation. The parents should definitely be held accountable.

I myself have kept and do still keep animals of this type, the difference is I would never use something meant to house fish to house a large python, or any snake to be honest. Its like keeping a pit bull in a playpen, they are going to get out.

Prayers for that dear child have been sent, here's to hoping for some kind of regulations for keeping these types of animals, in which there really arent any.

    Quote from Foxnews.

Police are expected to bring charges against the owner of a pet python that strangled a 2-year-old Florida girl in her crib, killing her.

Yeah it kinda is about the animals. Pythons and pit bulls and the like are not pets and it should not be legal to have them as pets. This tired old line of, "its not the animals, its the owners that make them mean" is a load of crap. That may be true of a poodle with a nasty disposition but pythons, pit bulls, tigers, bears and other such wild animals are just that - wild animals. Theyre hunters, predators and ultimately killers and dont see us as loving masters and companions like your average Golden Retriever (or staff as your typical cat sees you) but rather they see us as potential food! Youre right that we shouldnt blame the animals - they are what they are but they are part of the issue and there needs to be something done to keep these animals from being kept as pets because obviously there are too many stupid people out there that dont see a problem with it.
